just bought the Maxtor 7200rpm 120GB ATA/133 (2mb cache), from staples

here's the rundown from my recepit

$139.94 (selling price) - $54.96 (110% price gaurentee) - $20 Staples Coupon + $4.16 Colorado Sales Tax (6.4%) = $69.14

the price gaurentee was for the instant rebate, cause i work there, they just needed to price gaurentee someone

Hey,

There is one thing that I'm going to check out. It's a rotary cutter for photos @ $15. Has a board with index lines for common photo sizes. Just not a lever/guillotine cutter.

I picked up that cutter last night. Printed some photos, used the cutter.

Liked it so much that I'll pick up another for my daughter tonight.

Plenty much to do. Photos go from my camera up a USB cable to a dealy on my case and down some wire jobbies onto my motherboard and then through some other northsouthbridgees and then a IDE cable connector and up the cable to my HARD DRIVE then I go take a leak and its going out the other way backwards through that same stuff again to another usb cable that goes around behind the monitor but not touching it to my printer where is the blank paper and it goes ca-chunk and ca-chunk and out comes the photo and I pick it up because I washed my hands after leak and go to the CUTTER and make pictures so it has plenty much to do with my HDD!

CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE PROVIDE ME THE RULES ON WHICH SALE ITEMS ARE NOT APPROPRIATE FOR LISTING!

Accommodatingly yours,

Consider the source of the criticism, Slim, and don't worry about it.

One would be more justified in asking questions about hoxlund's post in another thread that was talking about a Maxtor 120 GByte, 8 MiByte hard drive:

http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic. ... 7910#57910

To wit: What does a purchase of the normal 2 MiByte cache version have to do with a thread about the high-performance 8 MiByte cache version? More relevantly, what is the point of a post describing a deal only available to a Staples employee in a Hot Deals forum intended for the general audience? And finally, why is hoxlund cross posting (the same post is in this thread right here), a practice specifically prohibited in the rules?

You have done nothing wrong, Slim.

Basically any hot deal related to computer or electronics would be appropriate for this forum. Unless one of the admins, mods, or myself speaks out against a hot deal being inappropriate, continue to share those hot deals with the community. I remember awhile back, I was criticized too for some post I made on free soda. But you have done nothing wrong slim.

I would also add that not everyone here uses CD burners to burn stolen copies of games and such downloaded from the web. There are other uses for CD burners, and one such popular use is for archiving digital photography. It follows that people who take digital photos and store them on their CDs might also want to print them out and display them, so a tool for cutting photos does have some general interest here. I reiterate, Slim, you have done nothing wrong.

Cfitz & BuddaTB,

I understand that you understand. I would have ignored it alltogether except that I failed to recollect his previous postings and attitude until after I responded.

And, yes, I do not see a disconnection between the cutter, digital photography and other subject matter discussed herein.

Thanks guys,
Slim

Could you point out where in your posts you told everyone about Staples offering a drive for $99? Here is your first post:

hoxlund wrote:just bought the Maxtor 7200rpm 120GB ATA/133 (2mb cache), from staples

And your follow up:

hoxlund wrote:what does that have to do with hard drives?

The only person who needs to settle down here, hoxlund, is you. I think that is evident from your last post. And I will also remind you that profanity isn't welcome on the forums.

(before commenting on this post, please take certain note that most of the topics I am quoting are mostly (if not all) comments from Ian, a moderator here at CDRLabs... Thank you...)

I had some "fucking" free time, so i decided to "dick around" with the search engine and look for some "shit".

From 02-26-03

http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic. ... light=dick

From 02-02-03

http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic. ... 70&start=0

From an unknown date

http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic. ... 57&start=0

http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic. ... light=dick

http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic. ... light=dick

http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic. ... light=shit

http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic. ... light=shit

http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic. ... 40&start=0

I's all just slang anyway (well, according to Ian himself, see topic 8540 again...)

And some quality "family" material from this "family" site:

http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic. ... light=fuck

But, then again, you have to kind of wonder about admins that will post the IPs of users they have issues with:

http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic. ... light=fuck

http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic. ... ht=pissing

So, not to get in a "pissing match" with anyone, but what did Hoxlung do wrong?

The rules of the forums:

http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=8914

2. Please refrain from using _excessive_ profanity

(excessive is conveniently vague here, to be judged on a post-by-post basis based on social acceptance of the moment and of the author...)

Though I did see someone has the name "Fuct" which seems to go against:

4. Avoid using account names, signatures or avatars that are offensive and inappropriate

It's all how you interpret (and enforce) the rules...

But, then again, as history shows, rules and enforcement are only about social acceptance (and arrogance of power)...

But, then again, Ian is a "pimp". I'll leave it at that...

But, yeah, Hoxlund, profanity seems welcome here to me...

I stand by my statement that profanity isn't welcome on these forums. I can't stop people from using it, there have been other instances beyond hoxlund’s that I didn't like either (including some posts you have linked here), and your idea of excessive and inappropriate profanity may not square with mine, but I still don't want to see it.

As for hoxlund himself, I saw his first post, which is nothing more than bragging, but did nothing about it. I may think bragging is bad taste, but that's just my personal opinion, I know hoxlund doesn't care about my opinion, and I know hoxlund has done it may times before and will likely do it again in the future, so I just left it alone. Then I saw he double-posted, which is against the rules, but again I just let it go. Then hoxlund posted what appeared, to me, to be a swipe at CowboySlim. Again, I thought it was uncalled for and inappropriate but again let it go because I didn't know if hoxlund's post bothered CowboySlim. When CowboySlim replied to hoxlund, however, and it was apparent that hoxlund's post had bothered CowboySlim, then I felt the need to speak up on CowboySlim's behalf and point out that hoxlund had no standing for his comments.

I really did just want to let this go, because I knew no good would come of it, but I felt that circumstances required a response in the end.

By the way, you are correct that what constitutes "profanity" depends on social acceptance. That is how social norms are defined, and doesn't in and of itself negate the value of social norms.
