UPDATE: On the 30th of last month I posted several questions re comms failure with a PC and LG cdrw. Some feedback and hopefully some more answers for me.

I removed my own LG8522B from my machine and installed my sister in laws LG8520B. I kept my NERO5.5.9.9 software.
INCD would work with the 8520B without any problems. Then I tried NERO itself and it refused even to see the drive. I tried CloneCD and that did not even see the 8520B drive.

I then uninstalled NERO5.5.9.9 and installed NERO Express 5.5.9.9 andthe drive worked perfectly.
I then removed the 8520B and reinstalled my own 852B. My drive refused to work with the NERO express software. So I uninstalled and put NERO Burning ROM 5.5.9.9 back and my drive works perfectly.

So it seems that the bundled versions only work with the drives they are bundled with.

So I am back to the point where I ask why would I get Communications Failure reports and crashed CD's when I use the 8520B drive and Nero Express 5.5.9.9 in my sister in laws computer?

Could it be the ASPI layer? Any suggestions will do. PLease note that although I have her burner with me her PC is 700kilometers from me.

I recall that Nero and Nero Express use their own version of ASPI, so I would seriously doubt that ASPI is the problem. I would suspect that the IDE cable is bad on your sister-in-law's machine. I would also try updating the IDE drivers on your sister-in-law's machine. I hope that these answers are helpful! :D

I doubt if the ide cable is the problem. I have tried the drive on both ide ports. I have tried 80 pin as well as 40 pin cables. Maybe the drivers are not the correct ones. I will try to update that when I get to her machine again.
Thanx

You're right. I wouldn't consider the cable to be a possibility if you have already tried replacing the cable.
