Sony 210E1 to 220E1 firmware update ..... my findings

Postby Ben Ifin on Tue Dec 03, 2002 3:10 am

Hello !

Well here is my brief report:-

=> I have a CRX 210E1 48x12x48x
=> using the "CRX 220E1" [ 52x24x52x ] Firmware I found here:-

ftp://62.67.47.73/sony6s02.rar

=> I used MTKFLASH to up the Firmware to the 52x24x52x [6S02] model
=> all is well
=> Nero 5.5.9.9 recognises the 220E1 and records at 52x
=> InCD 3.51.61 recognises the 220E1 and works fine
=> XP recognises the 220E1 and works fine

The only "catch" is that this still must be a "hacked" liteon firmware because it makes the Sony drive work just like my friends 48x liteon ie:-

=> led goes red when burning
=> led flashs green during boot up and when loading a disc

Also, the "other" hacked 6S02 Liteon firmware from here:-

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mcmntl/sony/sonyliteon.rar

Also worked *exactly* as well / same - I just used the other firmware above, because this other firmware shows up the unit as a CRX 210E1, where as the firmware from the cdrinfo site is already hacked to show CRX 220E1 in the ID.

Because I have *always* used Sony drives, I have never come across the RED led & flasing green led of the liteon - man, I reckon that is really weird !?!? RED is a really BAD color choice as to me, red lights always incicate a "problem" - and also, why have the green light flashing on/off on boot up and normal use - again another "problematic" sympton .... surelky if Sony dont use RED and dont have the flashin green either, why cant LiteOn who apparently *make* these drives !?!?!

Still........hopefully we can get hold of the genuine Sony 220E1 Firmware soon to make the lights work just like a "real" Sony drive.

If you really like to have a Sony Drive but you want to overclock, use the Genuine CRX215E1 firmware. It is 48x24x48 firmware so you'll get a slight cd-rw speed increase. You can get it from my site: http://kickme.to/sony195 on the binary firmwares page. There may be a windows overclocker for this soon.

Good point dhc014. The difference in writing times between 48x and 52x really isn't that much and with the CRX215 firmware you get to keep all the Sony features like the Turbo boost.

Hi dhc014

Just wondering ...... how long before you think you'll be able to get hold of the Sony [ genuine ] CRX 220E1 firmware ?

The drive is supposed to be announced in the US sometime in December. I'm sure someone will post the fimrware shortly after it ships.

GUYS PLEASE HELP ME!!! ISSUE WITH SONY CRX220e1

Postby elpiojolopez on Thu Apr 17, 2003 4:02 pm

since you're talking about sony crx220e1.. i wanna ask you guys something.
i bought one of these cd burners a couple of days ago, it's an oem model, of course, and my problem is that i can't burn cds at speeds over 40x, easy cd 6 just won't let me. When i run a test with this program i get that my firmware version is 6ys1.. why is that? shouldn't it be 6s02?? i'm confused... is there any way to update my firmware to make my burner to record at 52x??? if i have a chance please tell me where i can download the right firmware and a software to apply it.

thanks a lot guys, please help me.. i'm feeling kinda frustated with this shit.
