the lure of the locked thread

Postby MediumRare on Tue Apr 15, 2003 4:27 pm

Have you noticed the great fascination eminating from a locked thread? :o Was the author using excessive profanity? Did he attack other participants? Was he advertising forbidden fruits? 8)

To see what I mean, have a look at the hit count of craiger's 2 locked threads in the CDRW forum ("So What Do You Think Of Plextor's New CD Burner?", "When Are LG's, Lite-On's, and Samsung's 52x Combo's Due?"). Why are they locked? Not a very exciting reason: someone else had already started a thread with the same topic, but many more people read these than other threads of similar age with the same reply count.

You have a good point there. I merely check out the locked threads to see why it was locked.

You guessed the first reason. There was already a topic discussing the drive. Why start another?

The second post was locked because he asks that question every other week. No one knows. They're out when they're out.

I wonder how many people will read this thread if I lock it...

You forgot reason three. Doesn't matter though, because my CD-RW is still bigger than yours!

I say delete them, if the guy is an dolt and keeps posting the same crap over and over after a warning, then send me the link and I'll take them to the erasation station.

I believe this qualifies:

http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/search.php ... or=hoxlund

That ought to keep the erasation station busy for a while.

actually i think Ian was talking about craiger.

i'm not really annoyed with him, it's just that he has to make up his mind sometime and just buy a drive! :o
