Hahahaha! Cayenne dye! Is that like Cayenne Pepper? :D

No I ment Cyanine Dye  Google screwed me, I didnt know the correct spelling so I used it and it picked the wrong dye.

Cayenne Dye CD-R's would make a good copy protection scheme. Try to copy one of these CD-R's and pepper spray that is secretly embedded in the CD-R shoots out of the drive all over your room! :-? Hope the RIAA doesnt find out about this...

Seriously CMC used Cyanine around 97-99 for companies like Imation, Samsung, Hotan, Hi-Val, and Khypermedia. I think the speeds went from 4X to 12X. Never seen any 16x or above CMC disks with this dye. I bought a 10 pack of 12X imations and only 4 of them burned. Never bought them again.

The first time I saw CMC's Phthalocyanine (yellow/gold dye) discs was when I bought a 50 pack of 16X 74 minute Memorex CD-Rs. I only had a Sony 12X burner then but they seemed to work fine for low speed burning. I used a bunch of them mostly for copying CD-Rs for the car back then before I found out the "truth" about CD-R quality.

This Disc is designed for CD-RW/COMBO Drive Only.
Disc Type, Material = CD-R, Phthalocyanine
ATIP Lead-in = 97m 26s 66f
Norminal Capacity = 702.83MB (79m 59s 74f) <----------
Disc Manufacturer maybe = CMC,Imation
SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 48X

The arrow points to the ATIP Lead-Out if you don't know what it is.

The 3 discs gave the same ATIP leadouit results. The SMARTBURN utility output doesnot change between the 3 discs.

Darth: hrm, very odd!

Billy G: I too have noticed the problem with CMC made Cyanine discs! I haven't come across many discs of that type that have survived very well

CMC'S Phthalocyanine CD-Rs are generally MUCH better, but have their down swings as well.
