Optorite 5202 problem.

Burn baby burn!

Optorite 5202 problem.

Postby Schattenjager on Thu Apr 24, 2003 10:14 am

I've just built this new system and install WinXP Pro SP1 on it using a Optorite CW5202. Worked fine and dandy during the install. Now though after all the installs and updates for Windows the drive won't read any CD's at all.. Won't even read a burned one of any type. I've even installed Nero 5.5 for the chance it might help, still nothing. Every for burning a CD is present and even XP is picking it up for burning. For a burner, woohooo, all great, but as a reader I can't figure what might be wrong less I'm missing a file, driver, or the like. ANy help would be a great help..
It's never that bad. Just think, it could ALWAYS get worse.

You could try disabling the built-in Roxio burning engine in WinXP by going to Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Services |IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service | General and turn it off by setting the service status to Stopped.

If this produces no results, you could try installing ASPI drivers. Go to cyrus-troy Downloads and download the ASPI Check and Force ASPI programs.

Unzip (extract) ForceASPI, read the Index.htm file carefully, and run the program. ForceASPI will install the v4.60 (1021) ASPI layer.

Reboot, run ASPI Check, and if the installation is correct, try the Optorite again to see if it works.

Works good on regular CD's now. But.. Dunno if it was the prior burner or what but any of the CD's I previously burned can't be read. Odd. I can flip back and forth from work to home on two different burners and not a problem. I'm using Nero 5 every where. Personal fav IMO..

Much thanks to Inertia for the ASPI fix. :D
