Model 4816A in Cendyne 48 x 12 x 48 Box what is it?

Postby Entropy on Sat Apr 26, 2003 8:51 am

Did some sleuthing on the net and came up with two possibilities. First, is that is the model number of an Asus drive 4816a which is actually rated at 48 x 16 x 48. Second, is that it is a Benq drive and the model number is a variation on their 4816P. The A replaces the P indicating it was manufactured in Australia. Both explanations are plausible.

If it is an Asus drive I will be keeping it and if it is a Benq it goes back. I would rather not go through the trouble of opening and installing it. Hoping somene has done that already and can enlighten me. So is it a Benq or an Asus? Thanks.

if you buy a cendyne and the model number on the back of the box starts with LTR then its a lite-on drive inside

I know it's not a Liteon...

Just trying to determine if it is a Benq or Asus....

I had a friend purchase several of the Cendyne drive the 48x and 52x series. What he discovered was that when it says. 4816a or 5224a on the box it as a ASUS model. When he picked one up that said 4816p it was a Benq model.

Also he discovered that the 5224 w/o (a) was a Aopen drive. So it so far appears to be the (a)= Asus, p=Benq and no small letter = Aopen.

Also the LTR as previously mentioned is Liteon.

Hope this helps.

You have a BenQ drive.. not an ASUS.

Even I got this 9E.K firmware.. although the box was saying 4824P, it came out as 48x16x48.

So, if it is a BenQ, then it is definitely going back !
