Cendyne 48x16x48

Cendyne 48x16x48

Postby k000 on Tue Apr 29, 2003 10:10 pm

I just bough the Cendyne 48x16x48x from OfficeMax and I am a bit confused about who is the manufacturer of this drive.. the model number does not start with LTR and also the box it came in said 48x12x48 on the outside

I would appreciate if anyone could please tell me the manufacturer of this CD-RW drive, so that I can then goto manuf directly and get it.

Thanks

Well, if it doesn't start with LTR, what does it say? Or, do you want us to come over to your house and check for ourselves?

Probably an Acer/Benq 4816A or 4816P.

there will be a model number and usually the manufacture on the drive itself. just let us know what these are.

Another way you could help us help you is by running Nero Info Tool (download it here if you don't have it already) and telling us the firmware version of your drive as reported on the "Drive" tab.

It's 4816A

Postby k000 on Wed Apr 30, 2003 9:58 pm

And everyone else, thanks for the patience shown to this nubee. The one I've got is model number 4816A and Firmware is 9.EK

And as you guys said it looks like Acer.. Is it any good ? My 40x Cendyne in the other PC is a LiteOn and I love it. Never a coaster. Whereas i bought the Pacific Digital a few days back.. a 52x, but gave me coasters on most pf the music CDs.

Do you guys think I should keep it or return it and wait for a LiteOn ? Maybe Acer is a good brand too but after Pacific Digital's experience I am thinking more than twice about anything other than a LiteOn... !!

Yes, that is an Acer/Benq drive. It seems to be the general opinion that this drive is inferior to the Lite-On, but I need to say that I have never owned an Acer or Benq CD-RW.

k000,

I would return it. Or else drop it off at Ian's house and ask him to return it for you.

He isn't arrogant, but quite the contrary. He was just making a joke.

BTW, that 52x Pacific Digital drive is almost definately a BTC BCE5224IM

One interesting thing about Acer/Benq is that they seem to make their own drives and also rebadge the drives of their competition. Here is an Acer branded Lite-ON LTR-52246S for sale on newegg here:

I am temped to pick this drive up just to find out what firmware is on it, but I need to save my money for a DVD Burner.

Ian, I want to apologise... I didn't take your comment lightly, and called you arrogant. I guess I need to lighten up. This economy and job pressure is taking it's toll on me.

I guess we are friends... I live in NJ, and you are welcome there too :D
