I don't recall anything special going on. It was just the confluence of the stars, I guess...

We had a 2 for 1 sale. Two memberships for the price of one!

I'm kidding. To be honest, I'm not really sure.

I do recall posting on that Saturday. I think the peak occurred sometime around late morning or very early afternoon EST. If I remember correctly there were just a lot of people asking different questions. I don’t think there was any one single topic that everyone was talking about.

Maybe it had something to do with the holiday shopping season. Perhaps people were putting together their gift lists and needed information to help with their decision making.

no, not really.
i wonder why you say that ?
but the Sony dual format was all the rage at the time, and it was just before the holiday season, so there was a LOT of talk about it...

My theory is that Saturday, November 30, 2002 would have been the busiest shopping weekend of the year in the U.S. Thanksgiving was Novermber 28, and the next day is the beginning of the Christmas shopping season as remarked by cfitz.

Big sales would have been in progress, and Saturday is normally fairly busy anyway, being a holiday for most members. Combine that with the alliterative congregation of the board's busily bustling bargain buyers, and the rationale is complete.

The eloquence prize? Why, Inertia, of course. The brevity prize? You do, dodecahedron. :)
