Incd freezes system

Postby sanders on Tue May 06, 2003 11:49 am

Hi,

I am having some serious problems with incd. I have been using it with a plextor 161240 for a couple of years. 6 weeks ago I bought a Yamaha f1. On copying files from discs (fromated using mt R and normal udf) or on opening several photos the explorer window freezes. I can close this using xp task manager, but I do not have access to the drive until I reboot, which I have to do by pressing the reset button as when incd hangs Xp will not restart. I have tried with a variety of cdrws and have read all the xp faqs on this forum. I have even tried a clean install with just xp and incd, with native burning disabled.

I was going to rma the drive and then put the replacement on my second machine so I bought a new liteonit 522452 as a replacment for my main machine. The same thing happens. I put the yamaha on my second machine so rule out my main machine and saw the same issue. I am using the latest version of incd by the way.

So to conclude either incd has a problem or both drives are faulty and need to be returned. I did try directcd and it did not freeze but I did get a couple of blue screens which put me off.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Do you mean the InCD troubleshooting FAQ?

http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=9572

If not, then you should also read that.

I doubt the problem is with your burners. InCD has a reputation for being difficult in some cases, and the fact that you see the same problems with two different drives from two different manufacturers speaks against the drives as the culprits.

What version of InCD are you running? You might need to update to the latest version from http://www.nero.com

Yes I do have the latest version of incd and I have been through the troubleshooting thoroughly. As I mention I have even experienced these issues on a clean install with only incd running.

Did you try running earlier versions of InCD to see if your problems could be caused by buggy releases? This type of problem has happened before due to that reason.

sanders:

I have not heard about any bugs in any recent version of InCD (after 3.37), and the latest InCD 3.52.40 has been running fine on my XP Pro SP1 box. Still, as Inertia suggested, you could try earlier versions. First, however, you should remove any remnants of Direct CD as indicated in the InCD troubleshooting guide referenced by cfitz.

I agree with cfitz that your burners are unlikely to cause problems. Yet, you could tell us whether they work correctly with Nero on the same CD-RW media that failed with InCD (after full erasures). BTW, we can't guess what "a variety of cdrws" means in your case.

Sometimes InCD doesn't install correctly due to interference from other programs. For instance, in two recent cases Norton CleanSweep and a broadband connection manager had to be deactivated. BTW, in both cases the users had sworn initially that they only had clean XP installations...

Well, although you "have been through the troubleshooting thoroughly", you might have missed something. Hence, if your patience hasn't run out, we could take a closer look at your problems. To this end, it would be easier to concentrate first on one machine and a burner; e.g., the machine with a (relatively) clean XP install and the Lite-On drive. Take another peek at the InCD guide, and come back with more information that answers querries Q1 through Q12 in S18.
