I haven't changed nothing. All was fine yesterday and now this.
I try different media, didn't help. Also i had a writing error. Don't know what to do and the recorder has still warranty.

You should probably update Nero to the latest version. You can download it at Ahead's Web Site.

Also, try different media. If I remember correctly, Princo media isn't very good.

Taiyo Yuden media (such as Fuji media in the U.S.) is very good.

M@m4eto:

Since your IOSUBSYS directory contains several Roxio's drivers, I wonder whether you have installed Windows Media Player (WMP) 7.x or 9.0 with the Adaptec/Roxio burning plugin, or Roxio's Easy CD Creator?

In general, I don't know if the current versions of Nero and such Roxio's software can coexist under Win98SE. Apparently they can under WinXP, but Win98SE may be another story. What are your experiences, banzibaby and LiteOnGuy? I guess it might depend on the version of Easy CD Creator. Maybe Inertia could shed light on this aspect.

Since the log exhibits a session fixation error, I also wonder if you have problems with DAO (Disc-At-Once) burning.

KCK: I don't see why Roxio and Nero couldn't coexist on 98se; I know they can on XP. Unfortunately, I don't have ECDC6 or Win98SE to test. You have a good idea though.

M@m4eto: You could also try a firmware update if one is available for your drive. Backup your old firmware before upgrading.

LiteOnGuy:

Don't you have both Nero and some version of ECDC on your Win98 box? After all, Win98 is not much different from Win98SE, and it would help for other users to clarify the Win98 situation as well.

I don't want you to mess up your system unnecessarily! It would be best to ask Inertia, who knows all the intricate details on the interfaces between Ahead and Roxio.

In view of the file dates, I guess M@m4eto has got WMP 9.0. Thus, instead of ECDC, you could install WMP 9.0, and then the latest Nero to see if they can coexist under Win98. In the second step, you could remove the Adaptec burning plugin of WMP 9.0 by running

rundll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\roxio.inf,Uninstall

to see whether Nero becomes happy. Finally, you should be able to uninstall the whole of WMP 9.0 via Add/Remove Programs. Even if some Roxio's drivers are not removed, we should be able to clean up your IOSUBSYS directory. On the other hand, Nero does uninstall cleanly, so there is no danger on this side.

Unfortunately, WMP9 needs 98SE. I tried to install it, but it just won't install on the first edition of 98. BTW, I wouldn't worry about messing up my system; the 98 box isn't my primary system, and I reformat it often. I actually just reformatted it, and I haven't installed much of anything else (besides Windows and drivers) yet.

I've forgotten that 98SE is the minimum requirement for WMP 9.0; sorry!

Still, if you have time to try some fairly recent version of ECCD... :-?

That's OK. I didn't try to download WMP 9 now; I had tried it a while ago because it's so nice on my WinXP computers.

OK, I've got Nero 5.5.10.28 (Demo) and ECDC 5.3.5 Platinum on my 98 box. I'll run some tests and post back.

OK, here are some results. I ran simulation burns with a 74-minute ISO.

Computer Specs:
Daewoo CB649M-SI motherboard
Celeron Mendocino 366 MHz CPU
256 MB SDRAM
Maxtor 60-GB ATA133 hard drive on Maxtor ATA133 PCI ATA controller
Windows 98 (first edition, no patches)
Easy CD Creator Platinum 5.3.5 (With DirectCD)
Nero 5.5.10.28 Demo (no InCD)
Philips PCRW1208 recorder with firmware 4.0 (used for test)
Creative CD-RW RW1210E (rebadged LTR-12101B) with LTR-12101B firmware LS3J (not used for test, but installed)

I ran the simulation in both ECDC and Nero on an Imation 16x CD-R disc, using DAO mode. It worked fine in both programs.

I have installed the necessary Windows patches since I ran the tests.

If there's anything else you would like me to try, please let me know! :D

Your results look encouraging! 8)

Could you use Nero to burn (not just simulate) a disc in DAO, and then in multisession mode like M@m4eto? To save on CD-Rs, you could use a CD-RW disc. It's not urgent (since apparently M@m4eto has lost interest) and thus could wait until you really need to burn something on this box (unless Nero's demo expires soon).

To identify the relevant drivers, could you post the final "Existing Drivers" section from your NeroHistory.log (from C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero)? And, if it's not too much trouble for you, the listing of your IOSUBSYS directory, as explained in S11.1 of the InCD troubleshooting guide
