Optorite DD0203 DVD±RW - $199

Postby Ian on Sat May 31, 2003 1:50 pm

I borrowed this one from the AT forums. Accupc.com has the Optorite DD0203 DVD±RW for only $199.

I haven't tested one of these things yet so I really can't comment

Looks like the only real alternative to a Sony 500 if you want the same buffer and speeds plus the HD burn added, a lot cheaper too :) Will be interesting to see how it really performs.

Is this better than the $149 Cendye DVD+R/RW deal at OfficeMax? No rebates, free shipping...

Darn, and I invested a lot in DVD+R's too at $1 per disk....

what to do, what to do!

The CenDyne is a single format isn't it?

Yes it is. I think I'm going to order the Optorite dual format and return the Cendyne.

Do you think it's a wise decision?

Also, something's not right with the website dimensions:

Optorite dimensions:

Dimensions (Including the front panel): 148*192.4*42.3mm (W*D*H)

which is 5.826772" X 7.574803" X 1.665354"

However, my Cendyne DVD+RW is (W X D X H):

10" X 7.75" X 2.25"

Something's way off

Optorite DVD Drive

Postby john_hodson on Sat Jun 07, 2003 1:55 pm

I just got the drive a couple of days ago. I placed it in an external case with a usb 2.0 connection. The drive performance so far is excellent. I have a bunch of Khypermedia -R dvds that burn reliably at 2x in my Sony DRU-500a. In the Optorite, they are detected and burn successfully at 4x!! They play without any problems in my 3 standalone dvd players (Apex, Sony, Toshiba). I guess this mifgt be a bug but as long as they burn successfully at 4x and I have the option of burning at 2x, I'd have to call this a feature. One thing that you do want to do if you use Nero is to upgrade to the latest 35 version.
