that is the strangest stick shift i have ever seen. And those cheers look awful thin.

That's because the M3 CSL is equipped with BMW's SMG (Sequential Manual Gearbox). You don't use the stick to change gears, instead there are paddle shifters that you use to upshift or downshift. The stick is merely to put the car into park, reverse, and drive. There is also no clutch peddle, so its a mix between an automatic and manual transmission. Paddle shifters are technology stolen from race cars such as those found in F1 racing.
