Haha

It's pretty darn cheap. I'm very tempted.

Usually it takes a couple weeks for the retail (beige) drives to turn up after the first round of OEM. I just couldn't wait.

All the other drives I am familiar with came out with beige, black, OEM, and Retail versions at the same time. Oh well, I guess this isn't a normal release. They might have beige versions within a month. Retail versions of both colors in two months.

Ian, how about I buy the Black one, then I'll trade you your beige review unit for my black one!

Well, I haven't even ordered it yet ;) I don't really want a Black one since my other drives are white and my case is blue...

That would be a pretty small number.
For the uninitiated, OEM are generally the first to show up due to contractual arangments. Black because that's what most of the computer makers need. I'll wager that some people will order computers with 48x24x48x drives and will receive 52x32x52x drives in them instead. Same with re-badged drives.

I have no idea what to do with a black one either. I suppose now I'll have to buy all new black drives to match it. 8) I've always been torn as to what to put in my Lian Li Aluminum case. Maybe I'll stealth them all. :o
I'm just glad I didn't get a case with 6 x 5" bays....

is there anything that makes it better than 52246s besides higher re-write speed?

New chipset, P-CAV RW at 24x. Beyond that, we'll have to wait and see.
