problem with CD-RW media (16-24x verbatim media LG 4320b)

problem with CD-RW media (16-24x verbatim media LG 4320b)

Postby blakerwry on Thu Jul 24, 2003 2:43 am

I ahve the LG 4320b CD-RW drive. I bought 2 packs of Verbatim 16-24x "UltraSpeed" CD-RW media for backups on this drive and a newer LG combo(4480) drive. The newer drive is a 24x RW, this drive is only a 10x re-writer.

can this drive burn to 16-24x rated RW media?

The reason I ask is because Nero(newest version off FTP) refuses to burn on the media, citing that it is incompatible with my drive. It then asks me to insert a new disk. I also have the newest firmware for the drive v1.02.

On the package the CD-RW's state that only "UltraSpeed" RW drives can write to this media... at the time of purchase I confused this with "HighSpeed" RW... am I just out of luck with this media?

If your drive doesn't have the "UltraSpeed" logo on it, then it is VERY unlikely your drive will support them. Sorry!

the media is UltraSpeed.
your drive only supports HighSpeed - only up to 10x.

so the drive can't burn this media.
(the media speed is not "backwards compatible").

not true, since quite a few drive do support US media but don't have the logo, just the HS logo.

Thank you guys for the replies. I had not heard of the UltraSpeed spec for RW media. That's probably the reason I overlooked it.

I may keep the media anyway because it should be good for backups on the 1 writer it does work with.

Although it makes me wish I hadn't bought 2 of these 32x10x40 RW burners just a a few months ago. Is 10x RW media pretty common still, when should I expect it to be hard to find good quality 10x RW media? (I have an LG drive and have had good luck with Verbatim)

well, there's still plenty of NormalSpeed RW media (1x-4x), including Verbatim DLP (where i live at least).
so there's no need to worry yet about lack of media.

heh... 1-4x, really? not around here...

I don't know if I could even find verbatim at 10x at the local store I went to. (they did have Memorex)

I still have 4 10x RW's, but that's not enough for me to do a ghost image of my HDD... besides, 2 are imation, 1 is Verbatim, and 1 is LG branded mitsubishi. I wouldn't want to perform a backup on mixed media brands.

Surprisingly the Imation RW has worked well for me, what RW brands are recomended for LG drives?

OK then i got another solution for you:
buy a newer CDRW drive! one that does UltraSpeed CDRW.
