Windows XP

I do not yet have Windows XP, but I was wondering whether more than 1 CD-R or CD-RW drive can be used to record in Windows XP.

Microsoft KB article 294652 states:

"This problem can occur because the creation of compact discs in Windows XP is limited to the first CD-R or CD-RW disk drive that had been specified at startup."

Does this apply only to the built-in XP recording software?
Does it apply to all recording software, in particular, Nero and InCD?

Or, has the problem been fixed by an update to Windows XP (the KB article is dated 18 October 2001)?

i haven't read the MS KB article you mentioned, but there's no problem at all with multiple recorders using mastering software (or packet writng software for that matter) under winXP.
i'm sure that article is discussing the built-in capability of winXP.

(and who would want to use that piece of $#!^ anyway????)

I almost never use the WinXP burning software, but I have had no problems using two burners (AOpen 52X24X52 OEM and Lite-On LTR-48125W) on my WinXP desktop computer.

I suspect that:

1. The KB article was incorrect, or;
2. It may have been written based on the pre-release XP code, or;
3. An update has been issued to fix the alleged problem, or;
4. Most folkes, being sane, have ignored the built-in XP software, or;
5. Most folkes have just 1 writing CD drive on a system and would not have noticed any such problem.
