Experiences with Plex Premium & Liteon5232 & SmartBu

Postby ryus on Fri Sep 12, 2003 11:44 pm

I tried the search, but it wouldnt narrow down to my specific question. So if anyone here has had direct experience with the Plextor Premium and the Liteon 5232 and Smartbuy 48X discs, please post the performance results. I mainly buy Smartbuys, so am just curious as to whether they burn at 52X and have no C2 errors.

Thanks

I haven't used Smartbuy discs, but here are some results with various disc types on my LTR-52327S. I hope this is helpful.

All discs were scanned with KProbe 1.1.23 on my LTR-48125W (FW VS0D) at 40x. All discs were burned at the maximum speed Smart-Burn would allow. All discs (except the Imation 16x) were burned using the "Create Data CD" function in CDSpeed 2.02. The Imation disc was burned in Nero 5.5.10.50. and has about 76 minutes of data on it.

Discs burned with firmware QS09:

TDK (Ritek) 40x burned at 52x:
C1 Max= 19, Total= 5974, Average= 1.466
C2 Max= 0, Total= 0, Average= 0

SpinX (CMC) 40x burned at 52x:
C1 Max= 26, Total= 7209, Average= 1.773
C2 Max= 0, Total= 0, Average= 0

Philips (CMC) 48x burned at 52x:
C1 Max= 36, Total= 37542, Average= 9.407
C2 Max= 0, Total= 0, Average= 0

Imation (CMC) 16x burned at 24x:
C1 Max= 31, Total= 13434, Average= 3.441
C2 Max= 0, Total= 0, Average= 0
(This is an incredibly good result for this media.)

Discs burned with firmware QS0A:

TDK (Ritek) 40x burned at 52x:
C1 Max= 20, Total= 7183, Average= 1.760
C2 Max= 0, Total= 0, Average= 0

Fuji (TY) 48x burned at 52x:
C1 Max= 12, Total= 945, Average= 0.232
C2 Max= 0, Total= 0, Average= 0

It would be helpful to see an ATIP on these "SmartBuy" CDR's.

As far as I know all SmartBuy discs are made by Prodisc. SmartBuy is the retail name for Prodisc, just like That's CD-R is the retail name for Taiyo Yuden. The ATIP should be 97m 32s 19f.

We know that Prodisc tend to be "variable" in quality, but the one's I have had are better than everage in burn quality. They will burn only at 48x on the LiteOn 7S, here's an example: Fuji 48x, (100-ct spindle):

Image

Smartburn says:

Drive Type = CD-RW
Disc Type = CDR (C-)
Material = Phthalocyanine
Lead In = 97:32:19
Lead Out = 79:59:72
Nominal Capacity = 702.83MB (79m 59s 72f/LBA:359847)
Manufacturer Maybe = Prodisc
Smart-Burn Speed Limit = Wrt(48X),Rd(12X)
