Nero Burning ROM, Nero Express, NeroVision Express, Recode, InCD, etc..

Question for Craig Campbell

Postby CowboySlim on Sat Sep 13, 2003 10:51 pm

I was at the travelling "Computer Fair" this afternoon. There were several tables with software for sale. I noticed that there were CDs with Nero 6 offered in plain paper envelopes for $10. The red labels read: OEM, To Be Sold Bundled with Hardware. Not for Resale." On the other hand, the vendors told me that they will work with any burner and my impression is that OEM/bundled work only with the bundled burner.

I presume that some agreement has been violated and that these CDs may be considered contraband or stolen property.

I guess that my main question is: How do these CDs get into this marketplace. Do they remove them from the boxes in which they accompany the burners and then the burners are sold with out the Nero CDs, as OEM perhaps?

There are a number of ways they could have obtained the Nero 6 OEM CD's. Stolen is one way of course. :)

Or they could have purchased a number of recorders that came with the same Nero 6 OEM software, and they only needed one to install on their systems, and decided to sell the rest. The list of ways go on and on. :-)

And yes they are restricted in features, as well as recorder support. Nero Express will work with any model recoder, but the Nero Burning ROM portion will be limited to supporting only the recorder it was shipped with.

And if they wanted to upgrade to the full Retail version of Nero 6 they could not provide a valid proof of purchase to do so.

To tell you the truth, and this is my own personal opinion, if you are going to do that, you might as well go with a pirated serial key. Or download Nero 6 Demo each month.

Thanks for the reply, Craig,

Actually, I don't want to do either of those and I left those CDs on the table. I've got four valid Nero/Express 5.5s that came with burners that I've purchased and one Nero 6 key/sn that I purchased as an upgrade from one of those. That seems to be enough for now. My question was one of rhetorical curiosity.
