ok, I used a program called CDCheck to check both normal 52x burned media I done last night and the 48x overburned one. I used my writer to read the cdr's in these two tests and below are the results.

I will do the same but reading from my dvd rom in a few moments and the tests will be in teh dvdrom read directoy on the below link

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robbiekhan ... p/cdCheck/

seems the error rate for the liteon reading burned discs is very low to non but other readers fail almost right away. But at 48x NON overburned all the readers read them fine. I guess its the media here

Actually, we were talking about scanning your discs with a program like CD Doctor or KProbe. This will check the disc for read errors, not just compare the files.

I'm looking forward to seeing your results. BTW, KProbe only works with Lite-On drives; it won't read the discs back on your DVD-ROM unless it was made by Lite-On.

Just insert the disc into your LTR-52327S and start KProbe. Then follow these steps:

1. Select Lite-On LTR-52327S from the drop-down list at the top of the KProbe window.

2. Click on the "Write Strategy" tab.

3. Make sure that there is a checkmark in the "Max" checkbox.

4. Click "Start".

You can save images of your scans by clicking on the button that looks like a floppy disk.

Not good! Try burning it at 40x and scan it.

Rdgrimes is right; if the disc was working properly, there shouldn't be any C2 errors. I also think that I saw some unreadable sectors there, which is definitely not good!

Edit: This is a little off-topic, but where did you get those 8-cm CD-Rs that were in the picture, mrk1283? I've never seen anything like that in a store before!

ok guys, here's the results for new tests.

This one is with SMARTBURN enabled which limits writing to 16x on these media, Overburned to 707MB with mixed data (703MB capacity)
- link

This one is at 40x with SMARTBURN off not overburned, 702MB mixed data burned.
- link

is this better?

I have no idea what im supposed to look at for c1/c2 errors etc! but from this I can gather that SMARTBURN does indeed help when overburning or it's the lower writing speed on the media but at 40x NOT overburned the cd is also fine

Looks like 40x is working just fine, but I'd scan quite a few of them along the way to be sure. If you have CloneCD or Alcohol installed, turn off the "hide media info" option so you can see who made the discs in Kprobe or SmartBurn.
I'm guessing they might be the RiTEK JS black, AKA Memorex black. Some of the older ones had pretty low speed ratings.

Both of those results are fine; obviously the 16x is better, but the 40x looks fine, too! :D

I se eno option for "hide media info" and i have both those software (been using them since they came out :P)

good to know 40x is stable but I dont really mind waiting 5 mins to burn at 16x for a perfect burn though!

I se eno option for "hide media info"

It's there, in both programs. It prevents other programs from reporting the media ATIP information, like who made it. Best to leave it turned off unless you need it to run a backed-up game or something. Alcohol has it on by default, I'm not sure about CCD. In alcohol, it's under the emulation options.

I've used the business card CD-Rs you've got in the pic. They are pretty good. You can't buy business card CD-Rs that will burn faster then 8x though :-?

It's a drive limitation due to the weird shape.
Punch Cards -> Paper Tape -> Tape Drive -> 8" Floppy Diskette -> 5 1/4" Floppy Diskette -> 3 1/2" "Flippy" Diskette -> CD-R -> DVD±R -> BD-R
