Welcome to CDRLabs! :D

You may be able to use your 2x and 4x discs on your Plextor, but there's no guarantee that they will work well. I guess that the only thing you could do is to try them. If they do work, they probably won't work at high speeds; you'll probably have to burn them at 4x. They might work at 8x, but I wouldn't count on it.

I successfully erased a couple of 4x Memorex RW a few days ago (I was giving them away to a friend - those were too slow for my taste now that I was able to RW at 24x). Since erase worked, I'd assume that they would also write correctly at 4x.

They won't work at 8x because it's a different technology. 8x use the same tech as 10x, media must be branded as High Speed to work at these speeds AFAIK (in fact, does 8x even exist? I thought it was 10x and 12x :)

Do you mean 2x and 4x CD-R disks or 24x CD-R or 4x CD-RW or what? Please be more specific. Pretty much any media should work, some will only work at reduced speed though.

Yes, 8x does exist. My laptop has an 8x8x24x Matshita UJDA340 CD-RW drive, and I also have a 12x8x36x Philips PCRW1208. These drives write at 8x to "High-Speed 8x - 12x" CD-RW discs, but they only write at 4x to "Standard 4x" CD-RW discs (like I would expect).

Sorry, my apologies.

they are verbatim Data life plus 700mb CD-RW's

2*- 4* compatible.

Which i'm assuming can be written at 2 or 4 speed.

I'm not bothered that they might write slowly, as i'm just figuring things out at the moment.

I just would like to make sure that they'll work in the Plextor 52*24*52 drive.

PS.

I'm using Nero too, as it looks better than Roxio now that i've read the forums.

Thanks for your help

Yep, they will work fine. Good choice on the media: Verbatim DataLifePlus discs are really good, in my experience.
