Is there a problem if I uncheck NeroCheck from msconfig/Startup?
Can I stop it from auto-starting with windows from nero?
What exactly does it do?

I don't know what it does, but I'd be interested to find out, too!

nerocheck.exe = Associated with "Nero Burning Rom" CD writing software. Used to install/control Nero driver nerocd2k.sys. Required only if you use Win2K/XP and login without admin privileges.

Nerocheck.exe:

You can disable Nerocheck.exe from running at startup and still run Nero if you want, but since Nerocheck can be helpful, unless you know it to be causing problems I would suggest just leaving it enabled.

Does it use any system resources?

I guess so if it periodically checks for drivers.

That might be a reason to disable it.

here's the source for this info:
http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_pa ... rtup_n.php (search for NeroCheck).
the home page of that site:
http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_content.htm

a very useful website!

same here for Nero 5.5
however, in view of the FAQ cfitz linked to, i think i'll re-enable it.

i wonder exactly how it finds drivers that conflict with Nero - does it have a list of 'bad' drivers?

Does Nero below that the following is causing a conflict?
I found this in the Nero log file.
If so, that's nonesense.
AIC78XX.SYS is a Win 2000 driver provided by Microsoft.

Existing drivers:
File 'Drivers\AIC78XX.SYS': Ver=v2.20b, size=56848 bytes, created 12/7/1999 12:00:00 (Adapter driver for src)

Registry Keys:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon\AllocateCDROMs : 0 (Security Option)

Also, earlier in the log file, in addition the following was listetd:

File 'Drivers\atapi.sys': Ver=5.00.2195.6699, size=86672 bytes, created 6/19/2003 15:05:04 (Adapter driver for rec)

However, the atapi.sys is no longer listed in the log file.

This is with Nero 5.5.10.42.

I do not believe that this is a list of conflicting drivers.

Ive never had nerocheck enabled even since nero 5, never had a single problem either, i guess if you're a single user then its not really needed and i only use nero, clonecd and alcohol 120%

Not all drivers listed cause problems in and of themselfs. In many cases we just list drivers that could be a problem for Nero or your system if they are old and in need of being updated. Just because they are listed does not mean they will cause problems with our software. We just want you to be aware of them and the fact that they may be old versions and in need of an upgrade to prevent system performance issues, which may be associated with Nero being the cause.

Craig
