Plextor Premium all around. It's really quiet (the Lite-On is really loud), and has the best quality and performance.

Well, a lot depends on what you want to do with the drive and how much you are willing to pay. The Lite-On is indeed somewhat loud, but it has very good write quality and good media compatibility, and it costs less than half of what the Plextor costs. I currently own two Lite-On LTR-52327S drives, and I'm very happy with them. On the other hand, the Plextor has some nice features that the Lite-On doesn't have. Both are good choices. Basically, which drive is the best for you depends on whether you want to spend $40 for the Lite-On or $100 for the Plextor.
