LG 8525B 52X32X52 CDRW Drive Problem

Postby ex-coelis on Sun Oct 05, 2003 5:31 pm

Hi all. I just upgraded to the 8525B from my 8400B, and I am having a slight problem. I cannot read all the Memorex CDRs I burned with my 8400B in this new drive! I tried the same CDRs on a friends computer, and they worked great. Borrowed a Memorex CDR that he burned, just in case it was an error with my 8400B, but they will not read in the 8525B either. BUT here is the kicker, I can BURN to the same type blank Memorex CDR discs with the 8525B, and they will play in all drives. :x  I noticed on the CDR Labs review that the 52X24X52 LG had very high media requirements, I was thinking this might have something to do with it. Also I should point out, that at first I thought this was an error with the new drive, so I exchanged it for a new one, and had the exact same results.

Thanks!

Cheers.

Welcome to CDRLabs, Ex-coelis! :D

What happens when you try to read one of your old discs in the 8525B? Do you get an error, or does it say the disc is blank?

Does the 8525B read the discs that it burned?

Also, what firmware version do you have? You might want to upgrade the firmware if a newer version has been released.

Hi CDRecorder.

When I try to read on of my old discs in the 8525B it just keeps trying to read the discs, with no success. I've it for over 5 minutes and the light is still on trying to read, so I just eject the disc.

Yes, the 8525B does read the discs that it burned, on the exact same media.

There is no firmware upgrade as of yet on the LG website.

Thanks.

Hi ex-coelis,
I just bought the LG 8525B as well, but I don't have any problems so far, like the one you are mentioning. And you are right, there is no firmware upgrade yet for this model, as it is quite new still.

The only problem so far is that it couldn't read data from Lead Out when I was doing Error testing with Nero CD Speed.

Also, it gave me an error when trying to burn @ 52X with Memorex 48X (CMC) media (I know, it's because they are only rated as 48X, but I believe the 8520 model could burn them successfully @ 52X).

Thanks.

Wouuld I be better off going with the Liteon 52327S? I've read on the forum here that it has lower media requirements.

Thanks.

The 52327S does have lower media requirements, and it's a good drive. Out of those two drives, it's the one I'd choose.

That isn't a problem with Easy CD Creator. What is happening is that your drive is limiting the speed to 40x because it "thinks" that it can't burn them any faster without a loss of quality, which is probably true. To burn at 52x, you'll need to buy some different discs.
