LTR-52327S on Q09 will not burn faster than 15x please help!

I am unable to get my liteon drive to burn at much faster than 15x when using fireburner. The buffer runs out incredibly fast and then never goes back up. This isn't a DMA problem or anything as I checked that... I have tried some generic 48x khypermedia, some fuji ty's and both behave exactly the same. When I went into cdspeed, there were no problems and it had an average speed of around 40x, but for some reason I can't ever actually burn that fast. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd really appreciate it.

Have you tried other burning software? Nero?

Yeah, I have tried a couple and they all do the same thing. I need to burn bin/cues, but they're not the only thing that burns slowly.

What exactly are you burning? (Data, audio, etc)?

If you are burning audio, are you burning from MP3 files?

Does the buffer level fluctuate when you're burning?

Edit: never mind; I already saw that you said that it does run out fast.

Edit: what are the specifications of your computer (CPU, RAM, hard drive, Windows version, etc)?

Can only be a hardware issue, unless you're multitasking or converting files and burning at the same time. What is CPU usage during the slow burn?

I'm not multitasking at all, though with my old cd burner at 48x, I never has an issue with that. For some reason it takes up a tremendous amount of system resources (40%+) vs. when it's not running. It's really inexplicable. I never had issues with my old burner, but this one's giving me a hell of a time. I'm running dual Athlon MP 1800's and have 768 megs of ddr2100 and am running under windows xp pro. I have a few western digital Caviar SE's 120 gigs each and I'm burning the files from the hard drive that my OS is not running off of. I was burning .bin data files on all of my trials. As far as the buffer level fluctuating, it doesn't. The drive spins up and then the buffer drops very quickly (like 10 seconds) at which point the drive slows way down and eventually, the disc finishes burning in about 10+ minutes.

It could also be doing that if the HDDs are set to PIO mode; it would probably be a good idea to ensure that DMA is enabled for every IDE drive.

They are all in DMA mode.

The drive is not on a pci card. Again for some reason I only seem to have this problem when actually burning something as Nero CD speed shows that everything is perfectly in order. thanks for everyone's help, even if it isn't doing much yet
