I just purchased a spindle of the DVD+Rs from Amazon yesterday. When I made the purchase the link stated that they usually ship in 1 to 2 weeks. The link now says that they usually ship in 24 hours. Hopefully, my order will ship sooner than expected.

This is a pretty good price considering no shipping charge and no tax.

They don't seem to send to Canada though. Sucks.

I cannot buy a house or a Lexus either from Canada either. (Imagine how many South Korean middle class people want to emigrate to Canada right now.) :D

I've used about 10 of the 25 pack (DVD+R) I purchased from Amazon with no problems on my Pioneer A06.

The media is made by Ricoh and the code is "RICOHJPN R01". I believe that means Ricoh - Japan, I'm not sure what the "R01" stands for.

That Best Buy price is good, but I'd end up paying tax. So, if I'm not in a rush, I'll stick with Amazon. (At least until they raise the price again!)

It is an Ricoh ADIP but most likely the disks are Ritek, you'll notice that they are Made in Taiwan, so that's what makes me think that.

Do you not live in California? When I put the 25 pack into my Amazon shopping cart, I get assessed tax upon check out...

Yes, I live in California. I just double-checked my order and I did NOT pay any tax. (No shipping either.)

It's interesting that they would have charged you tax. I wonder what they base it on. Maybe where the item is shipped from?

Note: I don't know if it matters, but I also purchased two paperback books in my order.

My bad, there was a $5.58 shipping & handling charge, not a sales tax. That went away when I selected free super saver shipping.

By the way, I read some negative reviews on Amazon.com:

bought one of these at a local store, and was reasonably satisfied with it. I needed a couple hundred blanks, so I ordered 9 spindles from Amazon, mainly because of the price. BIG MISTAKE! The quality is VERY inconsistent. Two spindles were all good. The other 7 had anywhere from a couple to over 10 bad media. Even the ones that burned fine, were spotty at points. Two burns were approximately 20 mins burn, 20 not, then 20 burn, 20 not! forming concentric circles on the platter. I realise now that a project worth my time, LOTS of time, is worth a few more pennies.
You are not saving anything, because you are likely NOT getting 25 good ones for your money. STAY AWAY unless you really feel lucky you will get the rare fault-free spindle.

.............................

This is very low quality media. The quality can even differ from each individual disk, instead of per batch like with most disks. A lot of my burns don't end up having proper quality. Sure, they burn fine, and may even work for the average user, but the quality is very low. I now know why the price was so low. My recomendation is to find some TDK or Verbatim media equivalent, which may have the same Media Code in the ADIP "RICOHJPNR01", but it is of much higher quality. Try to avoid Memorex media as much as you can.

This is potentially very troubling. Can those who receive this media please verify if the experiences above are common? I think I'm going to return my Best Buy 50 pack spindle...

I agree, it is troubling.

So far, so good. I'm about half-way through the spindle with no problems. Perhaps, some drives are pickier than others. My Pioneer A06 has done well with these so far. (Or, perhaps I've just been lucky!)

I've only gone through one of these 25 packs myself, but I can say that every one of them burned at 8x on my Plextor PX-708a burner without any problems. The DVD videos I burned all played back perfectly in my Pioneer DV-656a as well. I'm going to be ordering another 25 pack soon though, so I'll let you know how that pack goes...so far I'm willing to try them again though. :)

CameraMan: FutureShop was selling the 25 spindle of Memorex +R for $59.99 + GST/PST.

Yeah, .com does not ship computer stuff North of the 49th parallel.

But I got some anyway (shipped to an American address) $29.99 USD.

Amazon screwed up the order, billed me for the 2 spindles I bought, but shipped 5 ! That's about 63 CENTS Canadian per disc.

No. I'm not willing to sell them.

I love America !

OfficeMax has them for $24.98 no rebates right now. Free shipping if your order is over $50, I think.

Well as somebody here mentioned even though the Memorex is the same ID as the good TDK's it most of the time will not burn properly at 4x in my 500. Does fine at 2/2.4. Probably reprints or whatever you call the seconds :( Other players will most likely burn them fine, but as we know the Sony drives are picky and Sony just says bad media or not on the compatible media list rather then release updates to support cheaper stuff  First time I've had plus media not burn at full speed though.

Bah! I just got my 25 pack of Memorex 4x DVD-R from Amazon (using my $25 gift code I got the pack for a cool $3.75) yesterday and they are indeed made by CMC Magnetics. Guess I shouldn't be suprised :-? Oh well, just burned an anime DVD backup and the disk works flawlessly in my two DVD players + my PS2 and xbox. Knock on wood...
