Artec 52x24x52 or Benq 52x24x52?

Burn baby burn!

Artec 52x24x52 or Benq 52x24x52?

Postby liteonrules on Tue Oct 28, 2003 3:30 pm

i am buying a burner for my niece and i can buy either one off of a co-worker for $25.00 (NO REBATES) brand new with the upc's cut OUT OF them.
MAD DOG - ARTEC 52X24X52
I/O MAGIC- BENQ 52X24X52
i know that both are not very good drives but which one is a little better burner ?
since no rebate, $25.00 is very cheap
NEC 2500A $20 10/04
NEC 3500AG for $47 4/05
NEC 3540 for $35 9/05
BENQ 1620 for $36 9//05

My inclination would be that the Artec is better, but I really don't know which would be better. You can read the review of the Artec 52x24x52 drive here.

Maybe someone else has actually used these drives and could comment here.

I have a Benq 52x24x52 model 5224p it is not that bad of a drive.

Here are some k-Probe results from discs burned with the 5224P.
the discs were burned at 48x and scaned with a LTR-52246s at max speed.

I'll post some more results later.

I had the Mad Dog 52x24x52 drive (Artec) it refused to write at 52x on any media, in fact, the drive wasn't even recognized as a 52x drive. Go with the Benq, it'll be better than the Artec. The Artec was complete crap.

Well, it does sound like the Benq is better. I'm switching my recommendation over to the Benq based on this information.

thanks but i came to work today ready to buy the BENQ and he sold it...so i had to go for the MAD DOG(ARTEC) but he sold it for $20.00 to me so i was happy for no rebates deal.

i took it home and tested it and had one diffrent result in my test than IAN
my test FIRMWARE V1.25 IAN's test WITH FIRMWARE v1.20
AUDIO EXTRACTION my test 50X highest 39x avg
IAN 40x highest 29.6 avg.
and it did not read scratched cd's as well as IAN'S TEST
recording quality was great also but this machine made some kind of popping noise when it read my really bad scratched up 50 cent cd and would not read it at all.
NEC 2500A $20 10/04
NEC 3500AG for $47 4/05
NEC 3540 for $35 9/05
BENQ 1620 for $36 9//05
