what's wrong with me burner

Burn baby burn!

what's wrong with me burner

Postby kpassman on Mon Nov 03, 2003 8:52 pm

i gots me a benq 4816p(from the offiemax deal a while back)
anyway, i've been taking care of it (only using it for burning) and been using only fuji's and tdk's

at first it was great but I ran into a problem recently. i've been burning at 48x, max, annd the burn is successful but when i put it into any drive, my whole computer freezes.

i lowered the speed to 24x and i get burn errors.
just to make sure, i made a burn at 4x and the cd works.

what could be wrong? i turned off autorun, flashed the firm, have dma enabled, and even changed the ide cables....

Try checking the discs for C2 errors in Nero CDSpeed, which you can get at http://www.cdspeed2000.com. The C2 checking function is called "CD Quality Check". To check a disc for C2 errors, just insert the disc, go to the "CD Quality Check" function on the "Extra" menu, and click "Start". Make sure to do this in your CD burner; CD-ROM drives don't always report this accurately.

OK, something's really wrong there; you shouldn't get even 1 C2 error. Do your music CDs have C2 errors as well?

Did you burn the music CD you scanned after the C2 errors began appearing on your data CDs?

Can you try burning an audio CD now, and scan it?

C2 errors are basically read errors on the CD. Some C2 errors can be corrected by the drive as it reads the disc, but some can't be corrected. If you have very large numbers of C2 errors (like you mentioned in your post above), parts of the disc are probably unreadable. In any case, if you're seeing any C2 errors, there is a problem with the drive, the disc, or the speed at which you burned the disc.

Also, are the C2 errors occurring on both the Fuji and TDK discs you're using, or are they only occurring on one of those brands?
