"5 Channel Stereo"

Postby Turkeyscore.com on Sun Nov 09, 2003 10:12 pm

I have a 5.1 surround sound card and quite a few speakers. In windows media player, is there a way to get the sound to come out all the speakers, (center, rear, and front).

Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 card
Speakers: 2 polk audio floor speakers, (10 or 12" woofer in those, 6 inch midrange, 1 inch tweeters), 2 KLH Towers (8" woofer, 5" mid, 5/8" tweeter), 2 4" multimedia subs, 6 3" multimedia spkrs

Can you use the creative "speakers setting" utility ?... dunno if your card has it bundled tho... I got audigy2/2zs, they both came with that stuff.

I have the speaker utility, it only allows for bass redirection, the front and rear speakers produce sound with mp3s but the center does nothing unless i have bass redirection on, but I dont want that since my rear speakers have 8 inch and 12 inch subs built in, the sub for my center channel is a 3 or 4 inch multimedia. (I know it's not set up well, but as soon as I get a better reciever with surround sound, I will probably retire the multimedia 2.1 system that is acting as my front left and right)

I was just thinking that it would be nice if i could have another source of sound, but i guess im just kinda greedy....i mean, two pairs of 3 way speakers should satisfy me huh?

Maybe its too late to answer but try this if you haven't sorted this already:

Control Panel, Sounds and audio devices, Volume Tab, Advance -> Select your speaker type. Unless this is done, your speakers will only work in Desktop Speakers mode which I believe is 2 channel.

Also you have to figure out the connectivity to Live card and connection of speakers to the center (volume control, on off, controller) unit of the speaker system. I have a Korean made set of speakers which came with a Korean only manual. I struggled to figure it out and in the end went brute force.

No regrets about Live Card / 5.1 speaker set. Feels like a theatre at home with BS Player / DFX Plugin.

Nor iron bars a cage;
Minds innocent and quiet take
That for an hermitage;
If I have freedom in my love,
And in my soul am free,
Angels alone that soar above
Enjoy such liberty. - Richard Lovelace
