LTC-48161H problem. Major problem, actually.

Postby StarKnightGoku on Sun Nov 09, 2003 1:01 am

Well, I just got the LiteON LTC-48161H from NewEgg, and I have a rather interesting problem.

Whenever it's connected to the computer, and I attempt to boot, it starts loading Windows, and then I get one of two blue screens of death.

The first one is "An exception 0E has occured at 0028:00000004 in VxD ---. THis was called from 0028:C187F5D7 in VxD ---."

And the second is "A fatal exception 0E has occured in 0147:00006637"

The first doesn't always occur, but the second does.

At the moment, I have my four year old generic drives from Compaq connected, and other than the CD-RW not working well anymore, both are functional. Actually, I just got the CD-ROM working again after a year of not working, but that's another story.

Any advice on what I should do? Money's rather tight at the moment, and my warranty expired awhile ago, so I can't take it in to be looked at.

Thanks in advance.

You appear to be running Windows 98, 98SE or ME.

First check that the LTC-48161H is set to master and the CD-Rom drive is set to slave on the secondary IDE cable. Try not to connect the CD-RW on the same cable as the hard disk.

If this still doesn't help, apply the updates from http://members.tripod.com/erpman1/w98meupd.html, in particular the 274370 cdvsd.vxd update about half way down the page in the Other Updates section. Note that there are different versions of the update for W98/SE and WME.

Well, I'm at school right now, but if that works, you become my new hero.

The 274370 link doesn't work on that site, at least not for me.

Problem resolved. Beautifully. I hadn't thought to delete everything in the Device Manager before plugging it in, then rebooting.
