Nu Tech DDW-061

Postby TM on Sat Nov 22, 2003 1:55 am

On the Nu Tech site they have firmware upgrades for both the DDW-061 and DDW-081. The firmware for both drives is the exact same file. Does anyone here have experience with this? I ordered a DDW-061 and was curious if it is actually the DDW-081 with a downgraded firmware.

Well if you do the firmware upgrade (which I would) tell us what happens and what you're device manager see. It may turn it into a a 081.

looks suspicious to me.
both links, for the DDW-061 and DDW-081 point at the same file: http://www.nu-global.com/admin/download ... 1-bx03.zip

if it were different links to different files, but once downloaded they turn out the same, that's one thing. but since both links are the same it could very well be a typo on that page!

Then email them and confirm, but usually firmware upgrades won't work with equipment they're not meant to upgrade.

i'll leave that to someone who owns a NuTech drive.

true. usually.
my suspicions notwithstanding, TM's question is legitimate and such things have happened before (or so many of us believe).

I thought it was an error also, however, it wouldn't be the first time for a "free" upgrade to show itself. I cannot find a tech support email address, does anyone here (who owns a drive or not) know how to contact them? Thanks

I have seen posts on www.pcdvd.com.tw that posts the way to 'upgrade' NU 061 to 081. I am not sure if this forum will allow posting of link to other sites, but if you look around there for words like ddw061 you should be able to find some download files.....
Of course, I don't have that drive... try it at your own risk....

Minchin, I went to the site and used babelfish in an attempt to translate. I could not gather much info, as alot was lost. Do you understand what is posted? It would appear that all that was done was they flashed the bx03 firmware? Any assistance would be appreciated.

TM,
bx03 works with NU 061. Just do it! You will get a 8x drive in no time.
Have fun

Netgenie, I appreciate the reply. I am looking to just upgrade the firmware and wanted to ensure that what is on their site is correct. That is what started me thinking. If you don't mind sharing how you know it will work, I would appreciate it.

Okay, the way to do it is via 2 programs. One seem to convert some ID for the 061 to 081. Then you use the newest 081 firmware to upgrade.
If you PM me, I will give you the link to the post..... I just don't want to violate any rules on the forum.....
If anyone can safely tell me that I am not...(say if Ian says it is okay) I will post the link....

There are some success stories on that forum....

TM,
One more thing. If you can find any software that can translate
"Eye no owl two trams net" into "I know how to translate" then you might be able to read the stuff on the www.pcdvd.com.tw site. Babelfish? No way......... lol

People on the pcdvd forum seem to have enjoyed success with the update. In Taiwan, some vendors even have 'pre-modded' the NU601 for sale!

I received my DDW-061 today and applied the files. The process worked! I burnt my first "backup" of Terminator 3 at 8X on a Verbatim 4x DVD+R disk, with no errors. Thanks to all who assisted on this one!

I just recieved my Nu Tech DDW-061 from googlegear, and it makes screeching noises when it powers up or the tray closes when no Media is inside it.

Also it won't ready any DVD ROM

Any ideas?

I tried firmware already too
