Asus P4C800E Deluxe and HD setup

Postby dbreaux on Tue Nov 25, 2003 9:00 pm

I've got this mobo heading my way from Newegg but before it arrives I do have some questions. These are the storage devices I plan to install: cd burner, dvd burner, dvd-rom, and 2 hard drives. I do not wish to use any sort of RAID array. Is it possible to install the optical storage devices (3) and one hard drive on the ATA 100 controllers and the editional hard drive (SATA) on the SATA controller without having to go into any sort of RAID setup?

Yes. You just have to set the RAID controller function to IDE in the BIOS. You can plug into either the ICH5R SATA ports (built into the southbridge) or the add-in RAID chip ports.

FYI you don't want to put an optical drive on the SATA channels. You'll need to get a SATA->IDE Adapter like Abit's Seriell adapter.
