Help with CENDYNE CRW-5224A firmware

Postby crice on Fri Jan 02, 2004 4:53 pm

I bought a cendyne lightning V drive a while back and now I want to update the firmware.

My drive is the rebadged ASUS CRW-5224A(http://usa.asus.com/products/optical/cr ... erview.htm) but if I try the firmware on the CENDYNE page and the ASUS page, both of them give me errors - "CANT FIND DEVICE TO UPGRADE"
The current firmware is 1.20 and I want to upgrade to the latest one (the current one is giving me some problems). I've tried every possible firmware update on the asus site and its giving me the same error.

My setup is as follows:
p4 2.4
768mb ram
WINXP PRO
the CDRW drive is SECONDARY MASTER with DMA enabled

I'm not too familiar with how to flash the drive in DOS. Can anyone help out?

The only way I was able to update a bios on an Asus burner is to change the run firmware update program in Win95 mode.

To do this you need to right-click on the firmware update program, go to the compatibility tab, put a check on "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select Win95. Then, run the program and point to the firmware file and restart your system.

Thanks, Ill try that now.

EDIT:
It is still giving me the same error, but also it says that it cannot find my WNASPI32.DLL when I run in win95 compatibility mode.

Try connecting the burner as a slave device and change the compatibility mode to 98/ME.

Have you seen any proof that this drive is crappy?

I can think of things that can make any optical drive sound "crappy."

Anyways, back to helping crice,

Get your firmware here:
http://www.cendyne.com/downloads/files/ ... 4A_120.zip

Tell me if that firmware works.
