Mazda RX-8 Transformer

Postby Ian on Sat Jan 10, 2004 6:03 pm

If you guys weren't aware, Hasbro is making a new line of Transformers toys call the Alternators. They're all based on modern vehicles like the Subaru WRX, Dodge Viper and Jeep Wrangler. Here's the latest one.. that was announced at the Detroit car show of all places:

In my Subura WRX there are seats, dash and even a steering wheel. The trunk, hood and doors open as well. The Mazda will probably be the same way.

Kennyshin, you can probably get Takara's Binaltech toys in Korea. They're just like these and they come in diecast over there. An import will run you about $50 over here, so probably $40US in Asia. You could probably get Hasbro (plastic) versions as well for a lot less. I know they have them in Hong Kong. As far as them being toys.. yes, but I wouldn't buy them for a kid. They are very hard to transform.

Here are pictures of the WRX and Viper:

Jeep Wrangler (not out yet):

This is the next toy I'm getting:

Do you like any of the Macross / Robotech transformers, Ian?

My favorite cartoon has always been Robotech, and I still love the Veritech fighters.

Yeah, I have a bunch of Toynami's Robotech toys including the SD, posables and Masterpiece Veritechs. I'm not big into these toys, so I can't justify shelling out big $$$ on Yamatos.

I'm waiting for the new Masterpiece Alpha fighters. They were supposed to ship last month, but were delayed until spring.

The plastic WRX is available now in the US and will run you $20 at TRU, Target or Walmart. If you want diecast, be prepared to pay $55+ for it online. I got the plastic.. funk diecast. It better be gold plated and taste like chicken for $55.
