Help with dead LG burner please.... :(

umm, I don't have a floppy drive... :oops:

I can see if I can borrow one though... I hate floppys! they are so slow and they take up more physical space then they are worth! :evil:

Come on, everyone needs a floppy drive. I NEED one for all my RAID drivers and such. Couldn't live without floppy.

Yeah aviationwiz,
you are right.Everyone needs a floppy drive.Never build a computer without one.I have a USB drive which I use most,but still have that 1.44 MB drive connected to the machine.

Some computers can boot from a USB-stick. They're often formated just like a big floppy. If that doesn't work, do try to borrow one. Windows isn't always very nice. It's too bad these tools (MTKflas and co) aren't available for Linux.

Yes MediumRare,
Newer computers can boot from zip drives,thumbdrives,or any other third drive.

A buddy of mine build a new AMD 2500+ system with out a floppy. He's had 0 problems so far.

But if you were booting from a CD-R image that had DOS on it, how were you able to load it/access it without the CD-Rom drivers installed ?

I downloaded a boot ISO CD image, the bios recognizes the CD as bootable and boots from it, but dos sees it as a floppy drive, so when it asks me if I want to boot with CD support, I can say no

I'ts basically a winME floppy disc, put onto a CD-R, very useful!

Well, that's it folks...Thanks for all the help and ideas!

I have now returned my LG 8525B, and received a new one in exchange. Luckily for me, the new burner came with firmware 1.02 already installed!

This little fact will likely save me countless hours of frustration, and another trip to the RMA department of NCIX.com

You can expect more test results on those 32x CD-RWs soon
