Nero detecting wrong max speed

Postby wallman on Sun Feb 01, 2004 12:44 am

I have the new NEC ND-2500A which is capable of burning a cd-r at 32x. I have burned several at 32x. I just bought some Memorex Music CD-r 80 min. that are 40x. When I go to burn them it will only let me choose 16x as the max. It is obviously something with the media or combination of drive/firmware/media. But why would Memorex claim them to be 40x when they are not? I have looked at the media code and where it should list the speed it just says n/a.
Is there a way to make Nero ignore what is detected as the max speed?

Please help

As you've found out, the speed on the media doesn't mean squat. It depends on the drive. Unfortunately, there is no way to override this with that drive. You're going to have to try other media if you want to write at 32x.

Would the firmware have anything to do with it? I am still running the original 1.05 firmware that came with it. I think there is a 1.06 as well as some hacked versions. Has anyone upgraded the firmware on their ND-2500A? If so what were the results.

You can download our DyNamic Write Tool from our website using the below link. This will allow you to record at the maximum write speed allowed by the recorder. But we can not quarantee that the media will be playable or readable on any device, when you exceed the speed the Recorder determines is supported by the media.

This UseStaticWriteSpeedTable entry does not seem to work.
I does show the max speed of 32x without the media in the drive. WHen I put this particular media (Memorex Music CD-R 40X) in the drive it drops to 16x. Please help.
