CDRLabs spelled wrong on Memorex box

Postby Ian on Sun Feb 01, 2004 8:04 pm

This is kinda funny. I went to Best Buy and saw Memorex's new True 8x drive. They had a bunch of quotes from my review of their 4x drive. Unfortunately, they spelled CDRLabs wrong not once or twice, but a total of 3 times. It said "CDRLavs". That's not the only mistake I saw. The specs on the back of the box said that the drive could read DVD's at 16x. The front and everywhere else said 12x.

Memorex has that sort of problem with a lot of their products. They don't know how to use a spellchecker. I've noticed this several times before, but never on their hardware. It's really too funny!!

On one hand, I'm honored that they thought enough of my review to use it to promote their new one. However, they didn't think enough of CDRLabs to spell the damn name right. That would be like someone saying "Anandtick" or "Tim's Hardware Guide".

Anyway, I contacted Memorex about this. I haven't heard from them in months so I really don't know what they're going to say.

ROFLMAO Ian.

They must think highly of CDRLabs, confusing it with CDRLavatory!!

My thoughts exactly, and that's wrong of them to do! All of a sudden, CDRLabs is now synonymous with a bathroom? No, that's preposterous! I wouldn't tolerate it, if I were you!

Shouldn't there be a fee for using the name CDRLabs?

How about free Memorex merchandise for life? ;)

No, we don't charge a fee. Usually a company will ask us for permission first though. In most cases, I don't have a problem... as long as they spell our name right.

at least they are making a new box to fix it. That costs a lot of money to reprint you know. They'll have to repay all the original setup fees.

It is amazing. The lack of quality control over the box.
