Burn baby burn!

Roundup of High Speed CDRW's on 52x LiteON.

Postby Action Jackson on Mon Dec 16, 2002 10:22 pm

I've been "testing" out some CDRW's on a 52/24/52 LiteON with firmware 6S02.

Here's the last thread I posted about this: http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=7842

The source were 18 songs 81:06.45 audio tracks ripped into into .wav's from Feurio!, Nero and Exact Audio Copy. And it was a DAO/96 burn. What I am trying to do is conduct an overburn test if possible.

I have included any updated ATIP info with SmartBURN CD Analyzer since reformatting my system.

Princo 4-12x High Speed CDRW :x
Disc Type, Material = HSCD-RW, Phase Change
ATIP Lead-in = 97m 27s 00f
Norminal Capacity = 702.83MB (79m 59s 74f)
Disc Manufacturer maybe = RICOH,Maxell
Nero "Shift" Refresh = Manufacturer : Digital Storage Technology Co. Ltd.
SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 10X

17 songs 77.54.21 min worked perfectly at 8x burn.
18 songs 81:06.45 min overburn did not work at any speed even after a reformat.

Generic 700mb High Speed CDRW :-?
This Disc is designed for CD-RW/COMBO Drive Only.
Disc Type, Material = HSCD-RW, Phase Change
ATIP Lead-in = 97m 26s 00f
Norminal Capacity = 702.83MB (79m 59s 74f)
Disc Manufacturer maybe = COMPUSA,Fornet
SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 12X
Nero "Shift" Refresh = Manufacturer : Fornet International PTE Ltd.

18 songs 81:06.45 min 12x overburn - Perfect according to Nero CD Speed. but I had to reformat the CDRW before it could achieve this.

AOpen 4-12x 700mb CDRW :D
This Disc is designed for CD-RW/COMBO Drive Only.
Disc Type, Material = HSCD-RW, Phase Change
ATIP Lead-in = 97m 10s 00f
Norminal Capacity = 702.83MB (79m 59s 74f)
Disc Manufacturer maybe = TDK,RiTEK,COMPUSA
SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 12X

18 songs 81:06.45 min
At 12x overburn Nero CDSpeed showed NO ERRORS.

Jensen 700mb CDRW :D
This Disc is designed for CD-RW/COMBO Drive Only.
Disc Type, Material = HSCD-RW, Phase Change
ATIP Lead-in = 97m 10s 00f
Norminal Capacity = 702.83MB (79m 59s 74f)
Disc Manufacturer maybe = TDK,RiTEK,COMPUSA
SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 12X

18 songs 81:06.45 min
At 10x overburn Nero CDSpeed showed NO ERRORS.

Verbatim 24x 650mb CDRW :D
This Disc is designed for CD-RW/COMBO Drive Only.
Disc Type, Material = HSCD-RW, Phase Change
ATIP Lead-in = 97m 34s 24f
Norminal Capacity = 656.40MB (74m 43s 00f)
Disc Manufacturer maybe = Unknown
SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 24X
Nero "Shift" Refresh = Manufacturer : Mitsubushi Chemical

16 Songs 74:04.19 [same compilation minus 2 songs].
At 24x Nero CDSpeed showed NO ERRORS but I had to reformat this CDRW twice before it would give me no errors.

If the Jensen and Verbatim CDRW's look familiar, they came from our very own Spazmogen. Thanks! 8)

The media that I would use to test for an overburn audio compilation would be the AOpen and Jensen. The 'Generic" would be hard to find b/c it's unlabeled.

EDIT : tried a reformat on Princo and Generic CDRW and updated results.

Thanks Action, nice job. These Jensen discs have gotten a lot of good results. Maybe I will have to pick up a few and try them myself. The Memorex 12x CD-RW disc that came with my Memorex drive doesn't burn very well - too many damaged sectors and even some unreadable.

Thanks. I didn't add the LiteON supplied 24x CDRW b/c it's pretty bad stuff by Plasmon.

By the way, the Memorex-branded disc I haven't had good luck with is listed as "InfoDisc" by CDSpeed and SMARTBURN.exe (ATIP = 97m 25s 30f)

Thank's Spazmogen. Glad to know that I am not alone in finding this product to be really bad quality. I'm also glad I didn't pay for it. Well, at least that I can pretend I didn't pay for it since it came as a sample with the drive... :-?
