you have a intel 815 on up chipset on your motherboard?

if so you can go with a SATA combo drive

I'm trying to research this drive myself,
and found a review that covers it and 2 other combo drives, here:

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/storag ... undup.html

I'm looking for either a good CDRW burner or a Combo drive, with Mt Rainier support, that's reliable, reasonably quiet, and scores high in the usual tests that are done around here. and at the low to mid level in cost, maybe $30 to $40 or so. Don't really want SATA at this point. I have a Yamaha F1 which I really like and it suits my needs well, but want something for another computer I use.

thoughts?

Show me one 815-Board with S-ATA :)

@stix:

Get the LG GCC 4521, it´s not too loud, and I think it´s the best combo you can get these days

Scour,
thanks for responding to the question.
trying to be a good scientist, I have to ask why you consider the LG to be the best combo. Is there data somewhere to back this up, or are you speaking from your own experience?

Hello stix!

I didn´t have/had the 4521, but I had the 4480. It was not the fastest DVD-Reader, but it was a very good cd-writer with high quality burns. I didn´t think/read that the 4521 is not so good as the 4480.

A friend have the MSI X48-Combo. If you read CD´s it´s a good drive, for burning CD´s it´s also good. But he said that the DVD-error-correction is not really good.

With samsung-drives (CD-Burners) I Have bad experiences.
