Burn baby burn!

Slooow 9x burns w/Samsung SW-252b

Postby theledzepp on Wed Oct 08, 2003 12:13 am

I have no idea why it writes so slow...in both Nero and Roxio. It's driving me crazy when I try to make quick copies of my audio cds. I'd like to be able to back them up w/o tying up the computer for so freaking long.

In Roxio, it starts out fast and then it seems to hit "the wall" about a second or two into the process, like it gets neutered over and over again.

The burns come out okay, but when I pay for a 52x drive I'd like at least 40x performance......Might anyone know what the problem is?

Is it one of the "justlink" or "justspeed" settings?

256mb ram
40mb/s hdd (well, 39 in tests)
16x DVD-ROM

Thanks,
Ethan

Is DMA enabled? Are you running anti viral software or any other software that might interupt the smooth transmission of data to the burner? You might also try to move it around on the IDE bus.I would say maybe hard drive fragmentation but that wouldnt make it that slow. Also it may be the brand of media you are using. My Samsung is pretty picky about media.

Definitely sounds like a DMA problem. Check out the FAQ forum for information on how to enable DMA.

DMA problem? Hardware config different...

Thanks for the reply--I checked the FAQ forum, and found differences in the device manager...whereas in the guide it shows "primary/secondary IDE Channels" under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, I have "primary/secondary DMA channels" along w/the "SiS Bus master IDE controller"....inside either primary/secondary DMA channels there is NO advanced settings tab for controlling DMA...just the other three tabs: General, driver, and resources.

What now?

Thanks,
Ethan

what OS are you running?

maybe try to swith from the SiS drivers to the MS drivers.
when using MS driver the tab for enabling DMA is there.
