This drive is akin to the Liteon LTR-48246S, using the Mediatek 6 chipset, correct? Is it upgradeable to 52x? It seems I've seen mixed info on this.

You are correct and it can be upgraded. Read through this thread:

You are welcome. I do encourage everyone to search the forums before asking a question, since there is a lot of good information contained in here. But, the search function isn't working very well lately, so if you can't find something after searching then please feel free to ask. Someone else may remember where the thread is.

Too true. I keep dropping little hints like this in my posts. I don't want to push too hard, becasue I know that Ian and Socheat are aware of the problem, and when it can be fixed it will be fixed. But I don't want anyone to feel frustrated that they are doing something wrong when they can't get the search to work properly for them.

I'll make a sticky in this part of the forum with a note about the broken search. I know that Socheat has been busy lately with work at his real job, but hopefully he's looking into this too.

Thanks Ian. Socheat's full-time job obviously takes precedence, but we are still looking forward to him getting a chance to get everything back up to snuff again.
