Do you mean this?

http://forum.firmware-flash.com/dl_firm ... oad_id=371

No. That is for a CD-ROM drive, the CRD-8520B. I don't believe there are any firmware updates for the GCE-8520B. At least, I can't find any on LG's Korean web site (let alone the U.S. web site).

How unfortunate that the model numbers are so similar. That could easily lead to confusion.

Actually, it's GCE-8520B, right?

there are 2 52x CDROM drive models from LG:
CRD-8520B/8521B/8522B
GCR-8520B/8521B
the GCR is the newer model.
the older model CRD did report C2 errors and read subchannel info.
the new drive GCR does not.
i think the new drives has very slightly better seek times.

both aren't that great IMO.
the CRD was pretty bad at reading CDRs. but it may have been a bad unit.

I believe you are mistaken. The GCE-8520B is a CD-RW drive, not a CD-ROM drive:
http://www.lgeus.com/Product/CD/GCE_8520b.asp

The CRD- models are CD-ROM drives, not CD-RW drives:
http://www.lgeus.com/crd_8520b.asp
http://www.lgeus.com/Product/CD/crd_8521b.asp

Anyway, in response to ariranha's original question, just hours after I checked LG's Korean site and found nothing suitable on it (missed it by this much! ), LG released a new firmware for the GCE-8520B CD-RW drive, version 1.04:

http://www.lge.co.kr/library/opendata.jsp?p_name=1047975076082GCE-8520B104(KW).zip

It isn't on the U.S. web site yet (although it probably will be hours after I make this statement   ). Supposedly the improvements are in media compatibility.

Wow, way too many 8520B drives. :o GCR and CRD, both CD-ROMs, and GCE, a CD-RW. Like I said, confusion results... :( No wonder ariranha wasn't sure. :)

According to my contact at LG, this new firmware should allow you to read CD-R media at 52x by holding down the eject button for a few seconds.

Unfortunately, it doesn't boost the DAE speed (yet).
