$2.99 50 Pack Sony 48X CDRs Any Good?
I went to Best Buy today and saw a 50 pack of Sony 48X CDRs for $2.99 after rebates. These disks were made in Taiwan. I read somewhere that they are made by Sony. Does anyone know about these or has used them. Who makes them? If Sony, are they any good or close to Taiyo Yuden(TY)?

Would it be better for me to wait for the Fuji 50 pack 48Xs made in Japan by TY. I know that Best Buy brings them for $2.99 every 2-3 weeks.

Thanks
Mike

I have been advised that the Sony 48x media made in Taiwan is manufactured by Lead Data   to Sony specs and with a Sony ATIP. It's possible though that some batches may be Ritek and/or CMC as well though.

Personally though, at that price I'd buy them anyway. What's $3?? Price of a couple of beers? :D

It's also possible that the discs are made by Sony themselves. Overall, I've had good luck with Sony discs, but check the Media Compatibility Thread to make sure your burner will perform well with these discs.

I think that today's Sony discs are always Taiwanese. I had some from 1997 that were made by Sony themselves, but that was a long time ago.

No they aren't. As I said they're made by Lead Data for Sony, but with a Sony ATIP. The DVDRs are the same.

It's the same with the 48x TDK media. This is manufactured by MBI in India, but with a TDK stamp.

I just bought a pack of Verbatim Vinyl discs.

Although I haven't opened them up to check the ATIP, it seems that the serial no (in the middle of disc) is printed differently from some other Mitsubishi/Verbatim discs.

My previous Metal/Super Azo discs have their serials printed in large letters. These vinyl discs have small letters.

Did i get a dud? :(
