Using Audio CD-R on computer recorder
Posted: Thu Apr 03, 2003 6:22 pmI have an old blank Maxell Audio CD-R--that is, a CD-R intended for stereo component CD-R recorders, *not* computer recorders. The CD-R is made by Hitachi Maxell, and has the following ATIP info:
ATIP: 97m 25s 22f
Disc Manufacturer: Hitachi Maxell, Ltd.
Reflective layer: Dye (Long strategy; e.g. Cyanine, Azo etc.)
Media type: CD-Recordable
Recording Speeds: min. unknown - max. unknown
nominal Capacity: 654.49MB (74m 30s 00f / LBA: 335100)
I have a TDK VeloCD 52/24/48 (5200B) computer writer I would like to use this in. This drive is a rebadged Liteon LTR-52246S with a fancy bezel and read speed reduced to 48X. Anyway, after putting this Audio CD-R in my Liteon drive, I notice that the drive indicates (via Nero Infotool) that it can write this CD-R at a max of 16X. That is fine, and understandable, give the CD-R's age. Here is my question: is it safe to use an Audio CD-R (for audio recorders) in my Liteon computer writer, or in any computer writer? I was planning on using this audio CD-R--I wanted to record it at 8X, even though the drive indicates it can do this disk at 16X. Also, my intention was to make this CD-R an Audio CD--I was *not* intending to make this CD-R a data CD-R! I am glad I only have one of these CD-Rs and have lots of great Taiyo Yuden made CD-Rs which do not have the audio recorder limitation. Obviously, I don't buy CD-Rs that are intended for audio recorders! But, despite that fact, I have this old audio CD-R in my possession.
Basically, I just want to know if it is safe to record this audio CD-R on my Liteon computer recorder *if* I use it to create an Audio CD. Thank you to everyone who replies.
