My Samsung 248F is slow burning

I'm new to these forums, but damn it, I just bought the black retail version of the 248F, 48x24x48.... and it only burns at 32xMax! It drops to the 20's, and the highest it went to was 34x....big whoop, I thought it was a 48x burner! I went to device manager to confirm the model number, and it is the 248F, and under Roxio properties, it states the 48x being the highest burning rate! Other than these problems, it burns great, but I want the speed.

Any Ideas?

make sure DMA is enabled.

what OS are you using?
for winXP,2K and 98 there are guides in the FAQ forum
http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewforum.php?f=17

also, try different (better) media.

Here's my setup:

XP Professional SP1
P4 2.53ghz
ATI 9700PRO
VIA P4PB 400
512MB OF DDR333
80G WD hard drive

I went to the DMA faq link, and my burner has DMA enabled as far as I can tell....

ok everything is cool now, I upgraded my firmware from 602 to 603 and everything works fine! Only there's a 604 version out, and it won't let me upgrade to that...:(

You wouldn't want to. All Samsung claim the R604 fw does is add Mt Rainier support... but guess what? The damn drive DOES NOT support Mt Rainier, so it wouldn't do you any good. I posted a thread about that a few days back.. lemme find it, and i'll add to this post.
