If your drive was a LiteOn it would be fixable by reflashing or replaceable under warranty.

Unfortunately, LG specifically states that a failed firmware flash voids the warranty and they will not replace the drive. To the best of my knowledge, your drive is not reflashable or fixable.

Sorry.

Ian wrote in the review of this drive:
Thanks to its MediaTek chipset, the GCE-8520B can do EFM encoding correctly.

Doesn't this mean that if JENI could get a BIN of his firmware, he could use MTKFlash to fix it?

Anything is possible, but the only firmware update that I know of is a Windows version. I know of no tools to extract the BIN file from the Windows executable, as the litefirm utility does for LiteOn Windows firmware executables.

If someone knows how or has extracted a BIN file and MTKFlash can be used to flash the drive in DOS, then it may be possible to recover the drive. Unfortunately I don't know if this has been done, and it will take some technical expertise for someone to extract the BIN file. It might be possible to do it with a hex editor if a person knew what he was doing. Unfortunately, without a copy of a BIN file to compare to the Windows executable, it would probably be a shot in the dark trying to identify where the firmware BIN begins and ends.

Does anyone else have this drive? If so, could you please try to extract the firmware with MTKFlash? Thanks!

OK, here's what you can try, JENI. Download the zip file which Burn2Death linked to, unzip it, and put its contents on a blank bootable floppy. Make sure that there are no autoexec.bat or config.sys files on the floppy. Then, boot off of the floppy and type, "MTKFLASH "x" W /B 8520b.bin". Replace X with 1 if the drive is primary master, 2 if the drive is primary slave, 3 if the drive is secondary master, and 4 if drive is secondary slave. BTW, I got the info on using MTKFlash from OC-Freak's Firmware collection and MTKFlash guide at CDFreaks.

Hopefully, this should get the drive working again.

You're welcome. :D

Is the drive working now?

Edit: If the drive's working now, you can try your update to the latest FW again. Hopefully, there won't be a power outage this time!

The dirve had warrenty, so I just change for a new one. I don`t know if I am going to try again. I do not want any thing to damage the drive and I am not sure how proceed with the upgrade.

Thank you.
