Believe the ATIP- InstantInfo is only an aid to finding out what's in the box before you buy it.

That scan looks pretty good! The only Riteks I have are the TDK 40x (they're even better :D ). The RW is not so great :-? - try a Verbatim UltraSpeed for good results. You may also want to change the scale to logarithmic with that large a variation in C1-rate.

Of course.

Ok, i've done some serious probing.

Behold the results and please do comment.

Precision media:
I bought two of these without having any solemn expectations.
Image

Though certified for 24X writings i wrote Audio on them at 24X.

Image
Not too good..

Next up i wrote another Precision. This time it was written with data and at 24X:
Image

Well, at least no C2's..

Now, i've found some Kodaks and bought some 2 cdrs.. I have hoped to see them supply the real dough.
The label says "Kodak Ultima 80". It also mentions having real gold.. Whatever. The disc was certified for 24X and integrates InfoGuard protection system. On the back of the disc i've found "Made In Ireland".

I wrote threw in some Audio files and burned at 16X:
Image

I felt a bit peevish with this burn.. I've hoped it to be a defected disc

So i wrote another cd. This time data, at 24X
Image

And to whom it may concern, the third cd did not differ..

Either the cds were kept in some laborious condition or they really are seamy.. And as far as i could tell they were kept rather neatly (They originally came from a 10-pack. I just asked three for examination purposes).

And from the bitter to the sweetest.
After the traumatic Kodak semblances i went out and got some SilverLine Cdrs and Some TDKs. If you had read my previous posts you could witness the stupefacient quality of these oriented cdrs. I bought the same brand but this time they were 700MB and certified for 40X.

The ATIP is, to my jolliness, identical:
Image

I Burned Audio and Data on it at 40X even though Nero allowed 52X.
All seems well:

Image

Next were the TDK. Certified for 16X, the ATIP results have a rather nice flavour to them:

Image

Shibby! We got TY in Israel!

I burned the TDK with the same content as i did with the SilverLine (The Doors - Greatest Hits) in order to have a fair fight.

BUT, even though Nero says they're compatible for 40X i preferred writing them at their "true speed":

Image

Well done..

Next up, i run both cds through CD SPEED:

SilverLine:
Image

TDK (TY):
Image

By the way, the TY was written at 16X at 4:00 Min.
The SilverLine took 4:01. Long live TY..

There's nothing wrong with any of your C1 levels, the Precision (Prodisc) 24x is just fine. We used to see peaks in the 100-200 range on C1 and thought nothing of it.

"Used to see".
Nowadays, i wouldn't want to compromise.
I only insinuated that the results are not as good as i would have hoped them to be.

I agree with rdgrimes. You need to readjust your expectations. Average C1 of 2 or 3 with no C2 is nothing to complain about or be ashamed about, even though, as you note, even better results are possible.

As for the Kodaks, well, those are truly shabby results.

By the way, instead of running the transfer rate test in CD Speed, run the CD quality test. It will show the tranfer rate and any C2 errors.

I'm not ashemed of the Precision. I just had other things in mind than 10,521 C1 errors.. I'm not that upset about it (as i am with the Kodaks).

I have run CD Quality Check for both cdr and both had no C2 error (Kprobe knew it before..). Anyway, the TY took that test as well with an average of about 0.25X higher than the Ritek.

I was going to tell you essentially what rdgrimes said, but he (and cfitz) beat me to it. For comparison, try scanning a pressed CD- you may be surprised.

I had some 24-rated Intenso Prodiscs that I can't get anymore (unfortunately -I liked the packaging) and they were just as good at 48x as at 24x. Similar to your scans.

Incidentally- you can combine C1 and C2 scan in KProbe- especially if there are no C2 errors, the plot is is easier to read without an empty pane.

Updating:

These Riteks ("SilverLine") are just marvelous.

Audio burned at 16X scanned at 48X:

Audio burned at 12X scanned at 48X:

And one regular 52X scanned at 48X:

These results aren't so far from the accomplishments of some TY's i've seen.

Catch you later with some other

gosh, I've really got to trade in my 48125W for a 52246S, or possibly the 52327S when I get the chance. I mean, most of my results are pretty good, but you're putting my BEST scores to shame there! C1 averages of 0.077 ?!?!!? I gotta get me some of that! :D

Also had a 0.053 error rate of a TY somewhere..

I'm not completely sure but i think cfitz has some Fuji cdrs with even lower error ratings..

All of my Liteon drives hate the old TDK certified plus media. Any speed just doesn't work very well with the same results your getting. Once I did one with Smart Burn disabled and it wrote at 40 and did a so so burn, but it's not consistent.
My Sony 500a can burn them at full 24 zclv and has excellent quality. My old TDK/Sanyo could burn them well if I dropped the speed to 20x or slower.
My 52 does have the best quality burns of any of the drives on media it likes, hopefully the new one will be just as good.
