New Plextor PlexTools Professional V2.02 is out!

PlexTools Professional V2.02 released on 16 May 2003
Added:
Support for Premium-U

http://www.plextor.be/english/technical ... _util.html
(Plextor Europe)

hmm...there's no PlexTools anymore in the download page, only PlexTools Professional. so it seems that this is the software for ALL Plextor drives.
i wonder how much of the new good stuff will be functional on non-Premium drives, like my PX-W4012TA.

by the way this is a big download - 9791KB (about 3 times the size of the old PlexTools :o downloading as i write :D

UPDATE:

PlexTools Professional V2.02a released on 20 May 2003
Bug Fix:
FreeDB cannot retrieve information from the server.

fixes bug discussed further down this topic.

strange...
when i ran the PTP202UEN.exe (=PlexTools Professional V2.02 Upgrade English) file, it would not update the previous PlexTools V1.21 like it has always done in the past. said i have to uninstall an older version of PlexTools.
so i uninstalled PlexTools, and the file installed PlexTools Professional! in the past these upgrade files would only upgrade, not install without a previous version.

anyway all works well now.

of the new features
  • Read Transfer Rate Test
  • Write Transfer Rate Test
  • Q-Check C1/C2 Test
  • Q-Check FE/TE Test
  • Q-Check Beta/Jitter Test
the first 2 work on my non-Premium plex drives, the last 3 do not :( (not unexpected though...)

another bonus: when exiting the program it really exits, doesn't stay in the system tray.

Have you checked out the downloading from Freedb yet. There seems to be an error. just a slight error

"Trying to connect,please wait...Connected
Retrieving site information...
500 Command syntax error: incorrect number of arguments."

I fired off an email to plextor software engineering section. They stated they will check it out. :)

i've never used freedb, in any burning program...don't know how to use it... :o

went to Options -> Prefrences -> freedb tab -> clicked Sever Settings... -> clicked Get Active List
in the Freedb: Status Window got:
Trying to connect,please wait...Connected
Retrieving site information...
-1 Site information not available

are these the same steps you took?
do i have to change any settings before i use the freedb or what?

i found another bug:
the Help doesn't work from the Help menu.
Help -> PlexTools Professional Help (the compressed HTML help) and Help -> PlexTools Professional Manual (the PDF help) don't work.
however they are located in the Program Files/Plextor! folder, and they do work fine. also the PDF manual is from the Start menu.

notified techsupport@plextor.be about it...

Yes, those are the settings. however make sure the server option shows

--> freedb.freedb.org then the Cgi-path: shows --> /~cddb/cddb.cgi and then the port: shows --> 80

and that you have your email address listed at the bottom of the main Freedb preferences

I hadn't tried the help yet, besides who reads the instructions

thanks.
yes, those are the settings i have, they are the default settings (except for the email ofcourse) and i haven't touched them.
and still i get the "-1 Site information not available" error message...

i thought to read up a bit on the new features - the various tests etc...
besides i've read the manual once a while ago to learn about the various settings. specifically about the error recovery settings when creating Audio CDs or when copying.

-----------------
if PlexTools had the capability to create data CDs with long file names, i would be using this program A LOT!!!
as things stand it's not all that useful to me, alas...
for testing etc. there's CDSpeed, which is also better because it's used by everyone - it's a standard, and has the ScanDisc feature (now if i had the Premium, that would've been a different story!)
i guess the big plus of PlexTools is using it for Audio ripping, where it excels...but i'm not much into Audio at all...
also, i find the CDROM Maker rather slow...i used it once, and it took rather a long time to create the ISO image before the burn...longer than burnatonce did
a shame really...

alchip80, do you use PlexTools a lot? what for?
and BTW what is your drive?

it handles up to 31 charactors. I don't have any thing longer than that. I do a lot of audio recordings. Plextools is fast and efficient and since it uses ogg and ape format's. for bigger data tasks I do use Nero and MRW.

Oh, the drive I use is a Plextor 4824ta. I have no complaints with the drive, no problems.

i think it handles up to 64 chars - that's standard Joliet. not long enough for me :( :o :x

you mean it can decode .ogg and .ape audio files?
don't most burning apps do that? doesn't Nero? i know burnatonce supports .ogg (don't know about .ape).
don't you find that you miss some extras Nero has like crossfading, volume equalizing etc.? (i don't think PlexTools has these kinds of things but i could be wrong of course, like i said i don't do Audio a lot and am not very familiar with this stuff either in Nero or PlexTools).

nice. i have 4012TA and 2410TA. wish i had a Premium too :P

alchip80, is it the same for you with your PX-W4824TA ?

I stand corrected, It does support 64 my error. I just don't have any files I name that long. I guess I don't want to spend all day reading a file name

Yes Nero does, and some support Ape. however, I most of the time don't use cross fade etc. Plextools rip's faster than the others with less overhead too. It also works with copy protected audio cd's very well.

Hopefully, I will pick up a new premium in a couple of weeks

Just saw your other post .

It is the same for me. I was hopefully wishing the c1/c2 checks would be available
