how many burns do your cd writer do before it died?

my liteon ltr48125w is now on its 2000th burn and sometimes i encounter skipping, like when i burn 50 CD-R, 1 or 2 will be empty... but so far no burning problems yet.

How do you fallow how many burns you have made? I know I have made many but I don't keep the count. Neither I have had any problems in the quality of the burn.

Count how many CD's you have burned. I catalog all my burned discs with an archive number, hence it makes counting easy.

i log to database all CDs i burn... i keep track of them, i've reached 2000. i wonder if it's now the time to have it RMAed...

I couldn't do that since I burn so many cd's for my friends on the fly (hurry). It could be nice if the drive came with such a counter built-in. One year or 60,000 burns warranty.

Jtan: does your 48125W do this when it is the only burner in use, or does it only do this when burning to several recorders simultaneously (I seem to remember that you said that you experienced this problem with this drive when you burned to two drives simultaneously)? Also, what firmware revision does your 48125W have?

at first i thought it's due to simultaneous burning. but after i separated them, i still encounter them when i do cd to cd burning of 50 copies...

usually once or twice. if not, i encounter disc write error, then i have to repeat then it will be ok.

i use the latest firmware. since i haven't encountered this problem prior updating the firmware, i don't know whether the problem is related to the latest firmware.

You could try flashing it back to VS0B or VS08. If that doesn't help, it sounds like the drive may need to be RMA'd.

What brands CD-R's and what speeds are you using? Just Curious!

I never took count but I estimate I burned over a thousand CD-R's with my LiteOn LTR-48125W over a year and a half. Easily the best drive I ever bought, beating out Yamaha, Teac, Sony and Plextor.

I just replaced it with a LTR-52246S two weeks ago. Most of the time I dont burn at 48X, dont know why. Im a little afraid Im going to get a bad burn or it wont work in freinds PC's or car stereos (some are real picky about what media you use) - for audio I like 24x and 32x for data.

i use different media. right now i'm using sony. but i'm not happy with it. after this 4000 sony cd-rs, i'll replace it with verbatim even if it cost a little bit higher.

Wow! I thought the four or five hundred I have bought over the last couple of years was a lot, but 4000? Wouldn't it just be cheaper to press CDs than to burn that many?

And I thought that burning 300 CD's in 6 months was a lot... How mistaken I was...

1 title 50 copies. 80 titles, so 50 x 80 = 4000. so i can't have it pressed...
