The new LG 8523B is a totally new drive based on the Media tek MT1588 single chip solution and most probably will oc to 32x cdrw

here are some photos and tests on the new drive

I also noticed the new batch of 8523B from LG. At first, I didn't know that it had a new design until Farookh brought it up. Few weeks ago, the computer warehouse that I worked in got only 4 boxes of 8523B...and the rest, 8520B....so it's very rare to get the 8523B.

What about real cd writing?
Not Cd Speed simulations?
I mean Nero burning rom times.

By the way, i like the new design.
Elegant.

How is media compatibility? That was my biggest complaint with their other 52x writer.

Media compatibility has improved a lot with this new drive. LG 40x that used to write 48x on the 8520 now wite 52x on this also some 10xcdrw now write at 12x

here is a small list of media i tried.

LG 40x 80min 52x
Moserbaer Pro 52x 80in 52x
Moserbaer 32x printable 52x
Princo 48x 80min 48x
Princo 32x 80min 48x
Benq 24x 80min 52x
Imation 8x 74min 40x
Sprint 24x 90min 40x

I noticed that in your screen shot above, the burner reached 50X but not 52X. :) Did it slow down near the end or is that the actual maximum of that particular burn?

Are these just the maximum speeds achieved in a test by CD Speed or are these actual results from burned CD's? If they are the latter, did you check each disc for errors using CD Speed's ScanDisc? I'd like to add results for the GCE-8523B to the Media Compatibility Thread.

LG 40x manufactured by CMC Magnetics

i have done wite test only on the LG, Princo & MoserBaer cds
all other are cdspeed test not actual burns.

As for not reaching 52x i think it would have if i put mode data since it was just 661mb or 75min, 700mb or 80mins goes over 52x

Where must i click to go on?

This is weird! I just logged in to say that I see the same problem as scour- redirect to "http://download.startsurfing.com/", full of ads. I tried it a last time- and got through!

In the meantime, Opera died (twice) and I decided to reboot. And now I get through if I'm logged in or not.

Weird.

Maybe I could see the link because I had my Proxomitron software enabled when I clicked on the link. (By the way, I can still see it as I post this message).

Scour, there is no link (beyoned the one posted right here) to click on. When I click on the link here in this thread I go directly to the review.

Scour and MediumRare - you are being discriminated against because you speak German. :(

web1000.com wrote:We actually do make money directly. We do this on things like 404 error traffic and some non-United States traffic that many advertisers would not purchase anyhow (like Korean and Chinese traffic), which we turn into 404 traffic. You will notice that 404 traffic is directed to advertisers.

If you speak English, they show you the site. If you speak another language, they show you ads. Kind of an odd business plan, but I guess it works for them.

Of course, they don't really know what language you speak. Their servers just look at the language setting of your browser to determine what to show you. If you want to see the site, go to "Tools"->"Internet Options"->"Languages..." (in IE) and set your top priority language to be English.

Insidious...

I tried it with IE 6 SP1, Netscape 7 and Opera 6.01 (all german versions)

Scour, set your browser's preferred language to be US English as I suggested above and try again.

They must have yet another sourver for their  information- I have english set as preferred language in Opera 7.10. I suspect it could be my Internet provider- they have a compulsory proxy and that may (?) show a .de in the referrer (or it may be Opera, which shows me German ads, and so must know something).

I won't worry about this unless it starts happening more often.

Ian- this is not a good example.

It certainly sounds like something is indicating to the outside world that your browser wants to see German content.

MediumRare wrote:I won't worry about this unless it starts happening more often.

Yes, this is the only time I have ever seen this sort of behavior on a web site.

MediumRare wrote:Ian- this is not a good example.

Allow me to be nosy and ask: not a good example of what?
