Unrecorded strip on Fuji media, but disc plays fine, why?

Searched archives, didn't find anything.

Burning at 24x on an external Lite-On, Fuji media have a strip of about 1 cm. that is of different shade than the rest of the burned portion. This happens on all the Fuji discs (tried 3 different cases) but not on Maxell discs I tried. However, discs seem to play fine. Any ideas what's this about?

TIA

Are you by chance burning in CLV mode? Such banding is normal for CLV.

I haven't noticed such an option. I did think about that strip being a result of different speed burning, but what's weird is after the strip, the surface looks the same as it did originally. It seems to be a more sudden change than gradual.

CLV isn't an option. CLV is a mode of burning that some burners employ.

It probably had to spin down for some reason -- my Lite-On creates discs that look like that if BurnProof has to kick in... sometimes it tries to speed back up, sometimes it doesn't...

I wouldn't worry too much if the disc works ok, although if in doubt, test it with one of the C1/C2 error checkers..
